Jul. 27th, 2007 11:55 amAcross the creek from the building I grew up in until I was 4 or so, there was a small piece of land with an old-style fast food joint (Arnold's Drive-In), a donut shop (don't remember the original name, but it was a Country Style and a Coffee Time at some point) and an ice cream store.
Yeah, the donut and ice cream places are now a CONDO SHOWROOM. Nothing is sacred anymore.
The Toronto real estate market is so wacked. Business is slowing down and yet the housing market is still out of control.
slwatson mentioned the housing prices where she is and I nearly passed out. I have $1500 saved for a bachelor apartment and I'm worried that it won't be enough for something clean, critter free and near the TTC. :(

Date: 2007-07-27 05:34 pm (UTC)It may go to $800 or above, and I'm not looking at the downtown core. More to the west.

Date: 2007-07-28 12:38 am (UTC)West or East doesn't really matter. Important thing is to be within walking distance (or short bus ride) to either Queen or anywhere along the bloor line. Areas I think that are neat include High Park, Beach, Humber Bay area (props to the best College Campus in the GTA), Hoggs Hollow and the Annex/Bloordale.
As you can see most young people not living at home in Toronto roomed with someone.

Date: 2007-07-28 01:23 am (UTC)I have two leads. One is High Park near Junction, which is where my friend lives. Bachelor is $709, with hydro. Other is... either Riverdale or Leslieville. It's a co-worker's apartment but he's looking for someone to take it because he intends to move up to Davisville. Might be a one bedroom, need to ask about the price.

Date: 2007-07-28 01:53 am (UTC)The High Park one is 30 minutes from front of the building to work. I timed that one. It's longer, but the subway is more dependable than the streetcar.
