Note: I have no clue what's going on with the MST3K fan fiction site. I'll ask Steff.

I don't know if I ever mentioned it before, but on the bus ride down to Toronto, we stopped at a Mac's Milk/Wink's Mart in Wawa at.. like... 2 am. The bus driver got on the PA and announced that we were stopped at a "Confectionary Store".

This amused me for a minute... and then I though "Darn... I REALLY feel like confectionery right now".

But, alas, I was poor and couldn't afford any at the time. But.... "confectionery"? "Candy" I understand and "Sweets", if only because people I know use that term.

Speaking of candy, random thought/comment...

Us Canadians, we get our Reese Peanut Butter cups in packages of three. The result is that the weight of the confectionery candy causes it to pile on top of each other when the package is vertical. So, instead of 3 across, you get three in a pile.

The packaging was so NOT designed for vending machines. o_O

You are such an idiot.

I'm not even sure why I even like you. Must be that idea of being of the same blood. Family obligations and all.

It's a bit like the grocery store, because you can say "I'm going down to the grocery" OR "I'm going down to the grocery store"

Though it has been awhile since I've seen somthing called a confectionary store, outside of a book. It's more of a turn 0f the century thing. or a British thing. Or a turn of the century british thing because it was a memior...

I thought that the modern British term was "sweets" rather than "confectionery".

I've never actually heard the phrase "I'm going down to the grocery" used before. I remember "I'm going down to the grocer", but for some reason I connect this to the "Mr. Grocer" chain of stores... which may or may not exist any more.

Yeah, the term in the book was indeed sweet-store. I just was thinking it was somthing diffrent because the time he was talking about was about 1912 and the only other place I could really think of being called a confectionary was the candy store in WDW, hence the turn of the century thing.

The more I think about it, I can't excactly recall anyone every saying "I'm going down the the grocery" though it is gramaticaly correct to say so.

I do remember someone saying "I'm going down to the green grocers" though. I have no idea what diffrentiates between a green grocer's and a grocer's, but I do remember that.
