I don't know if I ever mentioned it before, but on the bus ride down to Toronto, we stopped at a Mac's Milk/Wink's Mart in Wawa at.. like... 2 am. The bus driver got on the PA and announced that we were stopped at a "Confectionary Store".
This amused me for a minute... and then I though "Darn... I REALLY feel like confectionery right now".
But, alas, I was poor and couldn't afford any at the time. But.... "confectionery"? "Candy" I understand and "Sweets", if only because people I know use that term.
Speaking of candy, random thought/comment...
Us Canadians, we get our Reese Peanut Butter cups in packages of three. The result is that the weight of theconfectionery candy causes it to pile on top of each other when the package is vertical. So, instead of 3 across, you get three in a pile.
The packaging was so NOT designed for vending machines. o_O

Date: 2005-04-11 09:17 pm (UTC)The more I think about it, I can't excactly recall anyone every saying "I'm going down the the grocery" though it is gramaticaly correct to say so.
I do remember someone saying "I'm going down to the green grocers" though. I have no idea what diffrentiates between a green grocer's and a grocer's, but I do remember that.
