Aug. 20th, 2005 03:29 pmAnother massive storm yesterday.
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but in Thunder Bay I don't remember any "big" storms going through, aside from snow storms. I don't remember any big boomers of a thunderstorm like yesterday. It flooded out the highways in Toronto.
They had a tornado in FERGUS. When I think "Fergus", I don't think "state of emergency". I think "that wacky little town on the Grand River with the AWESOME looking, old school municipal pool".
The place is a mess and heaven help us if the damage is close to the highway. Most of the towns up there, like Authur, Guelph, Mount Forest and Fergus have highway 6 going right through them. From the photos floating around, it does look like the area has closed highways, but do you think I can find a listing of highway numbers?. Nope. We're driving up on Sunday to Durham and I have a feeling that I'll be dragging out the road atlas to find detours.
This is the best I could find:

It's a nice area too, when tornados aren't ripping through it. How can you find fault with a town when a rainbow is big news? Nobody died in the storm, which only further supports Tas's "Canada has warm fluffy powers" theory

Date: 2005-08-20 11:30 pm (UTC)Not that I'm trying to disprove the "Canada has warm fluffy powers" theory or anything.
And speaking of massive storms, we just had one roll though time a few hours ago. It was black out there.

Date: 2005-08-21 12:35 am (UTC)The theory doesn't hold up in practice, as the crash was very similar to an earlier crash in the 70s which caused the deaths of 2 people. There's also October Crisis, the Montreal massacre, Centennial Secondary School shooting... the list goes on.
We beat Columbine by years.

Date: 2005-08-21 09:12 am (UTC)There was one storm I can remember that took place a few years ago when I was still in high school, where small wind-funnels touched down in a lot of places. The aftermath was pretty bad; there were trees uprooted everywhere and branches laying all over the roads but I don't think that many people or properties themselves were damaged, if any at all. o_O That's as bad as it's ever gotten here from anything that I can remember.
But yeah... I saw on the news that a lot of people's basements were flooded in Toronto. :/ And that sucks, considering the amount of basement apartments down there (yet another good reason not to get one). x_x I hope that you didn't run into any problems because of the storm. :/ And Canada DOES have fluffy warm powers, I swear. XD;; I haven't been proven wrong yet!
