teddog: (Eep!)

This had to have happened at least 2 years ago in fall of 2001. Back then I was in OACs (grade 13) and had a class called Writers' Craft. I didn't do that much in Writers' Craft - most of class was spent debating politics and playing cards. Of course, it soon became my favorite class.

For Writers' Craft I had to research an essay on any topic. I picked Progressive Rock music. The school had a series of books on music that I was using for research and I was reading one of the books while my friends and I were sitting in library working on our essays. I think Charm was there, maybe Tiffany and her friend, and a guy I don't remember very well. In the music book there was a picture of a naked woman in a questionable position. Mind you, it wasn't a loose picture floating around - this was actually printed in the book. Being only 17 and finding something along the lines of prono in the school library I, of course, had to share it with everybody.

Later that day I set up my tape to record Prisoners of Gravity in the living room. My sister Jen was on the couch as she's cool and watched the series along with me. Mom was walking down the hall and I realized I hadn't told her the story about the picture in the book. I dashed out in the hall and started to retelling the tale, since I figured I wouldn't really miss anything in the first few seconds of PoG. What happened next I remember VERY clearly:

Me: And we found this picture of a naked chick...
Jen: He's naked!
Mom: Who?
Me: The lady in the book.
Jen: No! The TV! ::starts pointing at the screen like mad::
Me: Jen, we're talking about the book from class.
Mom: What?
Jen: HIM!!
Me: ::mouths the words "OH MY GOSH!" and spins around in a circle::
Mom: What's going on?
Me: Nothing... ::runs into the living room::

By the time I got into the room, I had missed the scene. Because I was taping the episode, I had to wait until it was finished before I could see the infamous nekkid scene.

Now, for those of us who never have seen PoG or are unfamilar with the TTPCTS Club or IP&S universes, let me explain something: Although Rick (the character, not the actor whom I have a great respect for) may be kinda cute in an innocent way, he's not "hot" by any means. Therefore, he's not the guy you want to see without any clothes, but there it was on screen.

Well... almost without any clothes. He still was wearing that jacket and you couldn't see anything really bad, not that I was looking. :-D

...yeah. Anyway, it was the Dreams episode, probably one of the most surreal PoG episodes out there because it seems like Rick dreamed the whole thing. At the start, he was having a nightmare about hosting the show wearing only the jacket. That was one messed episode.

And that's my fandom memory for tonight. o_O

Damned if I knew what they were thinking. On Signal Loss (my fansite), I used have a disclaimer that said I wouldn't screen cap that scene, even under request. No one ever questioned my stance on that with good reason.

The scene only lasted for 10 seconds and the rest of the episode was like one big drug trip. It was a pretty funny trip, though, and had a lot of references to the series Twin Peaks amoung other things. The episode is one of the better ones for jokes based on the fictional side of the series. Rick talking to Nance about his past dreams is a riot and I seem to recall Enrico Gruen being a bit more amusing than usual too. It's not quite up to par with some of the other episodes, though, because the interviews are slightly lacking. It's kinda interesting that the episode guide listing for it focuses on the informational side of the episode rather than the fictional side which really steals the show.
