teddogI got the studio version of "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" this week. I have the live (albeit redubbed- Phil's vocals went missing) version from the first boxed set, but I've never had the studio recording until now. The studio version is more cynical than the live version. In the live versions of the songs, certain lyrics are more or less screamed... while the studio recording is more calm, although I think the line "don't look at me, I'm not your kind" should be yelled. :(
There isn't much yelling in Genesis' studio recordings. There's "The Knife", "Eleventh Earl of Mar", "Man of Our Times", "Mama", "Domino" and some stuff off of "We Can't Dance" and "Calling All Stations" I can't remember. But then look at the live albums. Heck, there's yelling on the live version of "Entangled" and swearing on "Invisible Touch". Live songs are more angry. Maybe it's from being on the road.
I read somewhere that some fans think the album "Invisible Touch" is about nuclear war. ::Shrug:: Maybe "Domino", but I always thought "Anything She Does" was about porn.
