Why am I posting this? While not mentioned in the CNN article, the plane was stolen from Confederation College, where I went to college!

This is amusing because it's a tiny college that nobody knows about and we just made international news!

Okay, so it's NOT QUITE a good thing. Still, it's very strange to see the college mentioned on news sites.

If you have to go crazy, I guess it's a good way to do it. It even brings a little excitment into the lives of the Wisconsin Air Guard and state senate. :) Though I bet the guy was just assuming he could fly away into obscurity.

Also, I'm still betting he just wanted to ride the Duck.

My one fear is that someone is going to freak out about a flight school near the US/Canada border and the college is going to eat a lot of the blame. It might seem really corny to say, but planes don't mean the same thing up there as they do down here. Because of the local needs, they need that flight school.

That the person was nutters, stressed and "not happy" (apparently he was doing this with the intent to get himself shot down and killed) doesn't shock me either. If the rumours about him being a student are true, he might have been flunking out. The aviation classes are terribly intense, requiring often 12 hour days and a 80% to pass. All of the aviation students I knew in the dorms were at least a little bit insane.
