Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
Okay. The problem is that due to various reasons, about 99% of my fic is locked in filters. If you want to see them and aren't on a filter, leave a message and I'll add you. My fic is also spotty because I totally lack the focus to write anything long. I have so many unfinished fics.
The TTPCTS Club Round Robins - This is public. Before you look, remember that I was 17 at the time and this was my first real time writing anything other than high school essays. It's silly, it doesn't make ANY sense, my style and grammar are painful, I wrote things that make me cringe to death, and for those reasons, it holds a special place in my heart. I jumped in after I tried to get to a con in 2001 and failed, when I was angry and frustrated and thought "If I can't get to a con in person, I'm going to jump head first into fandom online". So I did. I loved writing this. I couldn't write on the internet computer (because it was always in use) but I would save the parts on a floppy and bring them up to my bedroom where I'd write the next part on my old Mac. I made a lot of friends through it too, back in more innocent times. I miss the ones that are gone from the net, but I still have Steff. :)
In The Land of Giants - Locked, need to be a comm member. I write a lot of IP&S stuff, but this one still strikes a cord with me because it's so different than anything else I've written before or since. I don't like picking favourites, especially with IP&S fic but I have a hard time thinking of this as a IP&S fic. My fic has the chance to be very heady and spaced out and it's taken to extremes in this case. It was inspired after taking the subway up to Bayview station one cold winter night and some of the thoughts in it are rather personal to me, as they're direct reflections of my own. This was supposed to be part of a series, but I lost the next part in a hard drive crash. So...
Unnamed and unposted IP&S/AMU Crossover - I'm still working on this, off and on. It's more or less elements from In The Land of Giants applied on a larger and slightly more disturbing scale, although it's a lot more down to Earth as a whole. Imagine trying to do The Right Thing but ending up in a strange alternate universe where you don't even know the person everyone else considers "yourself", but the world is a lot closer to home than you want to admit. Heady, but more applied, with thoughts that have to be put into solid truths and not fluffy ideals. I've put a lot of research into this, given what I wanted to touch on and the locations that come up. This fic is a freaking labour of love, because so damn much is tied to it in terms of IP&S and the AMU. Hell, what happens kinda puts in motion what stops the AMU from becoming Steff's darker MU. It's not the whole picture, but a firm groundwork. And it's FUN to write. :B
Another Man's Treasure - Unlocked. I write a lot of trades with Steff, even though I'm not a Trekkie myself. While I think she likes my AotW trades better, this one is special to me. I think it was spawned by a conversation we had about the role of action/adventure and my main idea was to recall a story typical of the Adventures-for-Boys type of book I used to read growing up. Oddly enough, this theme comes up in another AotW story that I've misplaced but I think that the spirit of the theme is better captured and carried out here. Just my opinion and I'm sure that everyone else thinks different. It's also the first time that I loved a trade I wrote. I like writing trades, but I'm often left hating the final product for whatever reason.
The Zangarmarsh Enclave - Unlocked, strangely enough. The ONLY piece of Warcraft fanfic I've ever written. It's not really fic more than a quick comedy piece. I think I love this because so many people wanted to play along and I love the line "Your Fel Lotus will be donated and used in its originally intended medical purpose". In an RP sense, my character Felenora (AKA Nora) is a sniper with hippie and entrepreneur sensibilities. This was originally spun off of a slightly IC skit in guild chat, where Nora decided to resettle in the marsh in order to avoid the broken market on the server. I revisited it during the zombie invasion, when so many people were upset about how it was being handled. I love guild crack, although a good amount of it is gone now.
Tagging, um, I'll be honest. I'm not sure who else (other than Steff) on my list really writes fic anymore. I think the following people do or have a past in fanfic:
moonygirl
gypsyjr
msp_hacker
Anyone else can join in if they want!
