While Obama won't come into power for several months, you're missing the key factor here: the election HAPPENED. And it happened without much of a hitch. There's going to be no infinite recounts in swing states, no fights over rigged voting machines and no claims of a giant conspiracy. It was too much of a landslide. This has got to be a huge relief to my American friends, some of which were honestly worried that SOMETHING was going to happen, the election was going to be called, Bush would maintain a death grip on power and the US would slip into a full police state. While that seems outlandish, look at what's happened in the last eight years. They had a reason to be afraid.
In the end, yes, Bush is going to have time to cover his tracks. As I told SLWatson (we watched the election together, me on a streaming feed and her on her TV, reminding me that we are living in some form of the future), I don't think we're going to know the depths of what Bush did for a very long time. But the fact remains that there is an end. He's going. And with that in mind, we need accept the pain and horror of what happened and move on. It's the only way we're going to to recover.
