Because I am, you know.

I haven't been following the main Warcraft comic too closely, other than the graphic novel that was released a few months ago. I have been making it a point to collect the issues for the Ashbringer mini series. The only reason for this is because it covers some plot arcs in the game that I was always curious about, mostly dealing with the Scarlet Crusade and the Argent Dawn. Due to some changes in the timeline, the original backstory has been rebooted and Blizzard decided to publish the new version in comic form.

I'm not sure how much I agree with it thus far and, frankly, there's some things that annoy me outright. Granted, there's some things that I enjoyed, mostly in a "LOL! Funny out of context!" BUT there is one thing that ticks me off...

Okay, Kel'Thuzad is not evil for the sake of being evil! He is more evil than much of the canon cast, true, because he's not very conflicted. He doesn't feel remorse. It would get in the way of his drive.

BUT

Making Kel'Thuzad an evil bastard for the sake of just being an evil bastard forgets why he's evil in the first place! When you boil it down, everything evil he's done can be traced back to a uncontrollable thirst for information. There was only so much he could gather as a "good" person.

That said, while this makes him evil, he's not really the evil bastard type. He does do cruel and horrific things a lot, but it's all tied to this overriding character trait or to his friendship with Arthas. He doesn't go around doing evil crap if there's nothing to gain from it. If Kel'Thuzad was truly evil for the sake of evil, Arthas would be long dead. Or, er, dead again. Or something.

So, having Kel'Thuzad torture Mograine feels wrong, really. He'd probably have a lackie do it, really. Plus, the Scourge has their own twisted honour system onto themselves. They're evil, but don't mess with their own, if they're high ranking. There seems to be a level of respect going on. Hell, it's a PLOT POINT in new storyline. That makes the torture even worse.

Also, it was awesome and all to see the Horsemen appear in the comic, but could you PLEASE Blaumeux some damn lines?! You established Korth'azz and Zeliek fast enough - Korth'azz has an attitude problem and Zeliek is trapped in a living prison (his mind is still sane, but his body acts on its own accord). Since Blaumeux appears to be the cruelest of the lot of them in the game, having her standing around and saying nothing is really odd. Sigh. Of course, it's the evil female that gets shafted.

In short, it's good for some b-movieish amusement, but... stop ruining the characters that were b-movieish fun in canon! If Noth appears as something other than a cranky mage, I'm gonna hit something!
