I remember being surprised by Alan Moore's appearance. Of course, this was also around the time a girl at my school got a nose ring, and everyone was scandalized.
Alan Moore has a certain presence on-screen, even today. It's probably not as shocking as it was in the 1990s, but let's be honest - he looks like the type of guy found lurking in back alleyways and not at comic convention. I think that Mark Askwith has described this interview online somewhere. Apparently, it was one of his benchmarks.
Granted, some other people interviewed seem shockingly clean cut too. 0_0
It hasn't been in a rotation since 2000. I hadn't seen this before, period, but I think that's because when it was airing in the summer of 2000, it was during a point in time when I wasn't at home. I was staying over at my grandmother's when she was recovering from... something. I can't remember what, but I would ALWAYS sleep through PoG. o_o
Thanks for posting this. I honestly couldn't remember if I'd seen it or not, and I still can't remember, but it was really good seeing it now. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons are sort of heroes of mine, and it was great hearing them break down what they'd did in that book, which was a huge influence on me. I find myself running from the influence these days, but still, it's a great piece, and I'm so glad PoG covered it. It's nice to know we live in a place that has had at least a little true intelligence in its television programming.
It's a neat piece and a bit timely with the movie coming out. Getting it in was the first time I had seen it myself.
I think the truth in how smart the show was is that episodes are still is watchable today. These episodes are pushing 20 years old now and while the references are out of date, the content isn't.
