Book Sale!
May. 22nd, 2008 02:30 pmThe United Way puts on book sales in our office building twice a year or so. I don't really care for the new books, since they're kinda "Meh". The one... though... HAD USED BOOKS.
So, Dave and I went up and raided the used book section for the strangest things we could find. Walked away with 6 books...
- Vanished!, a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Gave this to Dave, since he was really excited to see a CYOA book.
- The Boy's Life Book of Outer Space Stories. Printed by the Boy Scouts and includes a lot of pulpy scifi stories.
- Tom Swift and His Jetmarine. Couldn't leave this one behind.
- One of those "Dungeons and Dragons Adventure Gamebooks". After the CYOA book, we couldn't leave it behind either.
- What appears to be the first book from a science fiction kid's series from the 1980s called Not Quite Human. Probably not quite a good book, either, but I wanted a laugh.
- And, for reasons of curiousity, a copy of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Yes, it's 1970s terrorism.
All that for two bucks. I think most of those are out of print, which is why I like bin diving at used book sales. The Taking of Pelham One Two Three will probably go back into print next year with the new movie, though.
Also - What was "Classic Bookshop"? One of the books came with a bookmark from this place. The bookmark reads...
For the Finest and Most Varied Selection of Books Visit The Classic Bookshops Regular and Paperbacks
Montreal - Ottawa - Toronto - Winnipeg - Halifax - Edmonton - Quebec - New York - London - Hamilton - Oshawa - Sherbrooke - Calgary - Vancouver
The reverse has it in French. And the logo is apparently credited to Allan Harrison, who was a designer in Montreal during the 1970s.
So... Classic Booshops?!
