Searching for Another Holy Grail
Apr. 22nd, 2008 03:05 pmI'm working on some Signal Loss research here. I need help locating an issue of Analog.
Here's the story:
While researching PoG stuff, I discovered a post with the following on a newsgroup:
You're right. They didn't. But I keep thinking of this short story in
_Analog_ about dino-extinction and "time viewers"(rather like the Guardian
except you can only _watch_ what happened, No Interaction Possible). That
story came up with a rationale explaining that gravity wells were needed
to really make the time viewer gadgets useful. So using that and my
imperfect STU trivia memory as inspiration and guideline.
[...]
(And I'm afraid I don't recall the title or the issue date for the story
in question. All I recall off-hand is somebody inserting Rick Green's
_Prisoners of Gravity_ other nom du video "Enrico Gruen" in as a friendly
joke type of character name.)
As you may have guessed, I WANT THIS SHORT STORY.
I have no idea of what issue this is from, but I have a small timeline that I know it can exist in. Enrico Gruen doesn't appear until September 1990 and this post is from January 1995. If this short story exists, it'll have to be between these two points.
I'm going to dig through some reviews of old Analog mags and HOPE I get a hit. If anyone has any idea or if this rings a bell or sounds familiar, please leave a comment. It would mean a ton for me.
