So, I found this last night.

And showed it to Kate. I thought at first it was official, but it appears to be a fan video for Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni's spinoff. It didn't interest me at first, but this video makes it seem darn nifty.

That and the matter of Bernkastel and Lambadelta. My original idea was that the existance of those two cancel's out Higurashi or at least cheapens it. I gave it some more thought and decided that I could live with it.

Now, according to fan theories...

Lambadelta is Takano and Bernkastel is Rika. Before the events Umineko, they claim they were playing a game against each other. This would probably be the events of Higurashi.

I can't read Japanese, but the tea parties in Umineko APPARENTLY claim that
- Lambdadelta has a 99% chance to kill someone in a game.
- Bernkastel, on the other hand, has the ability to "roll the dice" and overthrow fate if the dice beat the odds.

However, Takano doesn't directly kill Rika in every arc. Because Rika is also a victim of parasite carriers, we can guess that the parasite was probably a creation of Lambadelta, created in order to reach that 99% chance. What she wasn't counting on was Rika and friends discovering how to overcome that parasite.

Notice that the parasite is always a background threat, but is NEVER cured. The stage of advancement can be reversed through medical and mind-over-matter means, but never completely removed. We really don't know a lot about it.

Furthermore, it takes Rika a long time to realize that Takano is the one killing her. Why? Takano looks a good deal different than Lambadelta. In Umineko, Lambadelta and Bernkastel are about the same age. In Higurashi, there's about a 25 year difference between Rika and Takano.

Now, Takano being so much older than Lambadelta hints at another oddity - the matter of Tomitake. Tomitake doesn't seem to hide that he has a thing for Takano, but she never realizes this until she's hit with it in Festival Accompanying Chapter. This says a lot for Takano's immaturity, which can be connected with Lambadelta being extremely immature - she acts like a young teen at best and this carries over to Takano.

Hanyƫ is probably best left at being a physical representation of Bernkastel's dice at most. I'm not sure how to fit her into this theory of mine.

As for the rest of the cast, they're probably just normal people in this universe, unaware of what was going on. This explains some of Bernkastel's poetry:

"And you were happy.
Because you didn't know what occurred outside the well."

and...

But all the rest weren't so unfortunate.
They didn't know that they were in the maze in the first place.

Which explains why the Rika doesn't just want herself to live through June 1983, but also wants everyone else to live through the month. This isn't Bernkastel's home universe and she wants to control the damage done to it at the end.

Thus, the scene at the end of Festival Accompanying Chapter where Bernkastel travels back to Takano's childhood and prevents the events of Higurashi from even happening. The game is over, so there's no need for everyone to go through that again.

So, if we buy that the two game series are connected, I can live with it in that way.
