Silliness of the moment:
May. 10th, 2003 12:05 amThe local arcade has had its pinball machine removed, so Katie and I talked at the mall and discovered this:
Both Maniac Mansion games take place in the spring, not the fall as many fan ficcers would have you believe.
Both games contain references to upcoming exams. It's on the hint poster for the first game and Laverne mentions in opening of DOTT that she has an exam in the morning. It can't be the winter exams because the valley is located somewhere where the there is a major change in weather between summer and winter (see Laverne's comments in the future basement), probably on the northern east coast judging from what we see in the past era of DOTT. :-P The weather in DOTT is spring-like and the poster from MM has a notice for summer jobs.
I do think that MM is set earlier in the year than DOTT (exams being a month or so away) and the two games have a span of five years between them. Brief timeline: 1967- Meteor crashes, mid 1980s- Strange stuff starts happening in the valley (Ed dropped out of school as a teen and things went crazy-go-nuts after that), 1987- Events of the first game, 1992-Events of the second game.
I also think the kids are at the end of their freshman year during the first game (they're still teens), so that means Bernie was probably working on a Masters during DOTT. Laverne is about two years younger than most of the kids, since she's in her third year of college during DOTT. Ed's roughly around the same age of the original kids, maybe a year or two older but still in his teens in the first game.
Okay Katie, how does that sound? Did I miss anything?
