Continuing on with the chat logs of "Two Hardcore Geeks"

For those just joining us now...

The original, by SLWatson
The Silliness From AIM, by SLWatson and myself
The Latest-Up-Until-Right-Now Part, by SLWatson

And now I bring the NEW latest part, prompted by "bad day". Be warned: My Star Trek fu is weak. Also had to play around with some ideas to make it fit, but I try.

Allaidh: It's never going to be a good day when a crewmate mentions that they had to get creative with equipment.
SignalPirate: Personally, I think Murphy's law is overwritten by Newton's.
Allaidh: But Newton didn't have assistants to constantly meddle with his theories.
SignalPirate: Point taken.
Allaidh: My captain, though, swears that the breakdown is never his fault. He can't grasp that technology doesn't break itself.
SignalPirate: Except for the random off times that it does.
Allaidh: That's usually related to wear and tear, which is caused by poor maintenance. In other words, operator error.
SignalPirate: Is that so...
Allaidh: And in the very rare chance that it isn't connected to operator error, it's more often than not a design error and the fault of the creator, not the technology.
SignalPirate: Remind me never to pick fights with an engineer.
Allaidh: I take it the upkeep on your ship isn't to such a high standard?
SignalPirate: It's aging, but I mostly have some small glitches and breakdowns, just here and there. Of course, the worst is when the artificial gravity kicks out and my coffee maker goes floating off.
Allaidh: ...
SignalPirate: What? Haven't you ever had to clean out coffee grinds from equipment?
Allaidh: ... Sometimes, I wonder about you.
SignalPirate: I could say the same thing about you.

I was looking at it from the point of view of a tech geek - blame the user because the tech can't hurt itself. That and he strikes me as the type of person who would baby his technology, unlike other geeks who keep hitting it until it works (that would be Rick).

Now, if I can work in Kirk ranting with a fibre reference next time, it'll be a triple word score. Hey, would Scotty use British spellings or American? Or can we correctly assume that such language quirks have been ironed out for ease of communication?

I'm not sure. My version was educated in the UK, but he ended up spending a surreal amount of time in New England, so... totally doesn't matter.

It's such a hard call, given how deeply wired language can be. Normally I wouldn't worry about it, but given this is a comedy of instant messages, it comes up. ;)

I'll just stick to what I'm comfortable writing.

Yeah, it totally doesn't matter. LOL! Write whatever works.
