teddog: (Tech! Stop Failing me!)
[personal profile] teddog
This is what [personal profile] slwatson and I do when we're bored.

It's not sane. I blame this fic

Allaidh:  Signal Pirate... signal pirate... no, I'm lost.  We haven't actually had any signal pirates that weren't somehow romulan or klingon spies within my lifetime!
Signal Pirate: The romans didn't even have broadcasting abilities!
Allaidh:  Who brought up romans?
Signal Pirate: Wait, that was a typo. So, you have people that dress up at your conventions too? You should have seen this great redshirt costume I had this one year!
Allaidh:  ...
Signal Pirate: Was it something I said?
Allaidh:  I think we must be on entirely different frequencies.  At least, metaphorically speaking.
Signal Pirate: Oh. So, you aren't a fan, then. Back to quantum physics...
Allaidh:  Fan of what?
Signal Pirate: Star Trek!
Allaidh:  What's that?  It sounds like... like some really badly made sci-fi movie that my best friend would force me to watch when we were lads.  Like some kind of Western thing?
Signal Pirate: The Western-like one was Star Wars, but a lot of people get them messed up.
Allaidh:  I don't think I ever heard of either.  I'm not much for watching vids.
Signal Pirate: Really? I can give you a list of videos that are great for passing time. What else would you do for fun?
Allaidh:  Read tech journals, mostly.  Design things.
Signal Pirate: I miss tech journals. For some reason, it's such a pain getting Popular Mechanics faxed up here.
Allaidh:  I can probably attach a copy through this signal.  I have the latest on tape here on my desk.

[22:26] hglowe: ((And the gig is up!))
[22:26] CommanderTeddog: ((Oh no... it can go a little bit longer...))
[22:26] hglowe: ((Well, yeah, until Rick sees what's IN THE TECH JOURNAL!))
[22:26] CommanderTeddog: ((LMFAO!!!!))
[22:27] CommanderTeddog: ((Nance probably won't even be able to decode it))
[22:27] hglowe: ((I'm sure it'd be in some straight-forward language.  They still speak English, afterall.))

Signal Pirate: Tape? Nobody told me they switched to audio format.
Allaidh:  ...I'd love to know what planet you're orbiting, Pirate.  Anyway, uploading now.  Give it a minute.

[22:29] hglowe: ((Which, knowing Scotty, he probably has at least one article IN the damn thing.))

Signal Pirate: Earth, of course!
Allaidh:  And you don't know what warp drive is?  Or that things are stored on computer tape?  This is very... something.  Odd.
Allaidh:  ...be my luck I'm breaking the prime directive or something.
Signal Pirate: Oh! Things are stored on computer tape. Not much, of course. Floppies have a bit more storage. Warp drives are something on TV, right?
Allaidh:  Or you're really, really secluded. I think I'll go with that theory.  Well, you should have that issue of Popular Mechanics.  And I should probably get back to work.
Signal Pirate: Secluded, yes. My friend's working on opening that issue right now... she's pestering me about something, so I should probably look into that. Don't want ignore an air leak until I can't ignore it.
Allaidh:  No, you definitely don't.  Good luck, Pirate.  Enjoy the journal.
Allaidh has logged off.

[22:39] hglowe: ((Which totally leaves Rick and Nance.))
[22:39] CommanderTeddog: ((to be baffled at the contents of file.))
[22:39] hglowe: "Secondary plasma manifolds: New theories on impulse drive technology!"

Nance: Rick, is this some kind of a joke?
 Rick: I.... I really don't know...

[
22:41] hglowe: ::cackles::
[22:42] CommanderTeddog: Next time, Rick accuses "Allaidh" of being a member of Control with waaaaay too much free time.
[22:43] hglowe: ::dies!::

Allaidh:  Who?  What?  Are you barking mad?  Last time I share my tech subscriptions with you, then!
Signal Pirate: AH! I didn't mean it in that way!
Allaidh:  And I'm lost all over again.

[22:45] hglowe: ((He'd totally be scratching his head with that helpless look, too.))

Signal Pirate: So, I guess I can expect the next issue. ::grins::
Allaidh:  Doesn't come out until next month.  I have back-issues, though, if you want some of those.  How far back?
Signal Pirate: Everything. I have.. quite a bit of spare time. Not much happens here.
Allaidh:  You're kidding, right?  I have something like twenty years worth!  I'll just send you the 2265 issues.  If you really are around Earth, I'm hitting probably six subspace relays just to talk like this, so I'll just stay connected and let 'em upload while I get back to work.

[22:49] CommanderTeddog: ((And thus, Rick cheers))

Allaidh:  On the way now.  Take care, Pirate.
 Allaidh is away.
