There's one episode of Prisoners of Gravity I've been looking for for ages. Robots and AI.

Nobody had it. I had to go to the Merril to see it.

BUT I FINALLY HAVE A COPY! IT CAME IN THE MAIL.

I originally went looking for this episode for a high school project back in 2002. When I went to the Merril, I wanted to see it since it had eluded me for so darn long. I was not ready for what I found... and was quite upset that I couldn't get a copy.

Now, I love Prisoners of Gravity as a show that was an outlet for artists and writers. The show did them a great service and it may never be matched. I also thought that the characters as a frame work were kinda cute.

In Robots and AI, the interviews are just gravy. The REAL stars of the episode are Rick and Nance themselves, as they fight over the very topic for most of the episode. Unlike the episodes that are treated with dead seriousness, this episode is mostly played for laughs and, I guess, this is the closest the show came to character development.

The best scene out of the episode is Rick fighting with Enrico Gruen. I believe this is the only time in the series when they directly interact. Now, I know that some people have claimed to have seen an episode that's ALL Second Nature. I've never seen proof of this existing, but I wonder if they wandered into this episode, since it has a section that's supposed to be Second Nature.

Because of the level of surrealism in this bit, I've done up a transcript with screencaps, because I NEED to share this with some friends. Be warned, however, that there's one or two very Canadian references that might be lost on some people. The bulk of the joke translates well otherwise. What's interesting to note is the shot of Rick with Enrico on the screen in the background never cuts to another shot. Given the timing with the two character's comments, this is slightly impressive.

Rick: Douglas Adams is on Second Nature, so I'll just... disconnect myself. (and does so)
(cuts to Second Nature)

Enrico: .. your new book, Last Chance to See. On the cover, a kimono dragon, some... little... midget people here. But, what's this book all about, really? Tell us about it for all those at home who may not have read it yet.

Douglas: As much as anything else, it was to educate myself. And h, any teacher will tell you that the best way of learning something, the best way of understanding, of finding out about something, is to have to explain it to somebody else. So, this is essentially what the book is about.

Enrico: Marvelous, I'm sure. Douglas... let's go back. July 9th, 1986. You were in Toronto, having breakfast, you had eggs for breakfast, with Brian Linehan...

Rick: Sorry to interupt but... uh... I want to talk to Douglas Adams!
Enrico: Who said that?!
Rick: (waves) You hoo!
Enrico: I'm trying to do an interview here!
Rick: Yeah, well, I've got something important, so I'm cutting you off and hijacking this signal. Yeah, yeah. (brushes Enrico off)
Enrico: (rather monotone) Outrage.
Rick: (equally monotone) Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. (mumbling) Big outrage.

Enrico: Wally! It's that bloody pirate broadcaster again!
Rick: (waves) Yo!
Enrico: Will you get off the air?
Rick: No! I wanted to...
Enrico: You'll never work in this town again!
Rick: Look, will you shut up, you pretentious bore?!
Enrico: Oh, shut up yourself!

Rick: Where's Stuart McLean when you need him?
Enrico: This is worst than the CBC budget cuts!
Rick: Go on!

Enrico: (gets up) I'll be in my Winny, Wally!
Rick: Fine. Take your Winny and Wally it.
Enrico: Outrage. Outrage.

And there, polite bloggers, is one of the most insane pieces of footage you'll ever see from Prisoners of Gravity.

I'm debating if I should just toss up this episode onto the YouTube now or later. I love some of the humour in it, but there's really no hard hitting interviews. There's just piles of fluff.

Tuesday is good. Monday I have a meeting in the afternoon, but if we keep it to an hour, I should be fine.

Fridays are okay, but that's usually when I go out with the guys from the office for lunch. I doubt you want to her my co-workers whine about how much they miss baseball. ;) But, I can drop out of the weekly lunch-and-coffee adventure if that day works for you.

Would prefer Tuesday, though.

Works for me. The service at Jack Astors was fast enough. Where do you want to meet?
