This is various shades of DO NOT WANT:

NBC is Relaunching Knight Rider

I like Knight Rider on the principle that it's a watchable action series (if you like that sort of thing) from the 1980s with an AI and a British guy who are pretty awesome. I care little for the Hoff. The parts that haven't aged well are now unintentional hilarious - sorry guys who like the series and defend it, but Garth is the funniest thing ever. He has a moustache, a pimp cane, a truck and he's EVVVVIIIL! HA!

As for this new series, let's see...

KITT's, uh, not KITT. Not the same KITT, since the "Two Thousand" got upgraded to "Three Thousand", with a different voice and is now a Ford Mustang.

"Justin's character of Mike Traceur is the son of Michael Knight, but "I clearly don't know that right away,"" which answers the question of if Michael fathered illegitimate kids or not. I sense comedy gold right there. He's also a Iraq vet, updating the Vietnam war angle in the original.

"Deanna plays the daughter of Charles Graiman, the inventor of KITT" Charles, by the way, is played by the same guy who played Senator Kelly in the X-Men movies. This is a joke that only two people here are going to get, but LMAO! Does the Graiman conflict with Bonnie? I can't remember, but Deanna is basically the updated Bonnie role.

There doesn't appear to be a clear replacement for Devon, but there's an FBI agent who may or may not be covering that role.

This all strikes me as having the potential for very large amounts of unintentional comedy. What depresses me, though, is while NBC is looking for a primetime action series, this is just another remake. Comedy/action isn't mind blowing hard to create.

I suppose someone might bring up the new Battlestar Galactica series and how well that's doing, given that the originals were both Glen A. Larson series. Now, Knight Rider getting remixed like Battlestar did, as in completely reimagined with a clean start, would have been interesting. As goofy as the show is, there's some fairly dark material in the backstory. The pilot episode is quite interesting to watch through given when the show was released and what the content is; Michael gets his face blown off and Devon has an extremely twisted sense of humour, almost running Michael over at one point. Instead of that, we get something more alone the lines of a bad animated sequel - the adventures of the major character's kids! Note how they're the same, but bitter to follow in their parent's footsteps!

It's just not interesting.

Also: Why hello there, Equalizer DVDs. In terms of silly 1980s action series, that's one I've been wanting for some time.
