Yay for Kate!
Apr. 30th, 2007 08:55 pmWhile she was cooking dinner tonight, Kate pointed out that the "Gyakuten Meets Orchestra" album, an orchestra recording of various songs from the Phoenix Wright games, could be.... downloaded, for lack of a different word. I've wanted to hear this album, but the $40 price tag scared me.
I'm going to be dorky, but it's so COOL. The music in the Phoenix Wright games is very cheesy electronic music, but the tunes are good and it's honestly part of the charm of the games. This is also like what I'd expect the soundtrack to a movie based on the games to sound like, and if any video game needs a movie version, it's Phoenix Wright. I don't dare touch the fic end of the fandom because I'm scared that it'll ruin the "epic" feeling of the canon plots.
Some of the music is still a bit tacky - the theme of the Fey sisters is one of my favourite pieces of music in the games (cute but slightly bittesweet, much like their role in the storyline), but the orchestra version doesn't quite work. The bells (I think that's what it is) are a little over the top. But, holy crap, the version of Miles's theme is impressive. I'm a bit dismayed that Gumshoe's theme is tucked away in the suite based on the investigation music. For Pete's sake, they gave the Steel Samurai his own track in the album!
Currently looking for "Gyakuten Meets Jazz Soul". Same idea, but with some different themes and based on jazz instead. :B
