"About last night..."
Mar. 14th, 2007 10:44 amSorries to anyone who got my odd away message yesterday. Allow me to explain...
My plan last night was to go home, eat, play WoW (lots of stress with a client and I use WoW as a stress killer) and go to bed. Kate mentioned that she wanted to go to Future Shop, so I figured "What the heck?" and went along to compare cell phone plans.
We got home some time after nine and found that the place is crawling with cops cars. My first thought was that our delightful wanted-on-bomb-charges neighbor was causing trouble again. However, there was an EMS SUV there, which normally only shows up for medical emergencies and the house in question was dark.
Then, we were worried that something had happened to Chris's dad, because he just had some complex medical problems with his heart as of late, but we didn't see Chris or his mom around. So, we let it slide for the moment and went inside. All fine and good, right?
WRONG. A few minutes later, we hear this car hit its brakes hard. I think nothing of it, thinking that it must be someone arriving to whatever happened. Then, suddenly, we get this phone call. It's Janet (Chris's mom), calling us to say that someone drove his car into our van. Thankfully, the damage doesn't look that bad (mostly scrapes), but he hit the back right side near the tire, so we might have to get it looked at.
So, mom goes out to visit the cops who witnessed this so she can exchange insurance information. The driver of the car was acting a little odd, so the cops told mom to go back home for a while and wait. Turns out that the guy was drunk off his butt and had to be arrested for drunk driving.
At the end of all this, it turns out that what originally happened was an older man who lived a few two houses from the end of the street passed away. We had known he had heart problems, but what we didn't realise was he had terminal cancer and was more or less sent home so he could die with his family. He passed away last night.
What a night. And it continued into this morning. I had problems sleeping and slept through my alarm clock. I only managed to wake up at 7:30 am because Kate's cat was howling and by then my train was gone. Mom offered to drive me in, so I got to work just after 9, but that means a lateish night here.
And the point of this? Anyone have a cell phone and live in the Toronto/Hamilton area? Or, heck, live anywhere in Canada? I want advice on who to go with. I don't want Fido because their system is messed up. Yes, we're part of the Rogers network but if you want to use all of the Rogers network, that's extra! On the other hand, Fido has a minute tracker. Looking into TELUS, but the guy at Future Shop didn't have a map showing the service areas and was full of BS. And Rogers and Bell... are Rogers and Bell. And then there's the odd ball ones, like Solo and Virgin, but they're only pay-as-you-go.
