My favorite quote?
Since the article's March 4 publication, reporters involved in the story have been inundated with phone calls from angry Prayer Palace members.
"You have touched God's anointed! Be careful! Be careful that you don't drop dead one of these days," shouted one caller who identified himself as Roger.
Other callers said that to ignore their warnings would be to invite tragedy into reporters' lives, including leprosy and possible physical harm.
One caller issued a death threat; another called a reporter a "Mormon ... a racist."
Now I understand why the building's newsroom has at least a second wall of security. Also: Mormon? WTF?
Usually I tend to sit on the fence when it comes to churchy things - I'll keep it in my way and you keep it in your's - but this creeps me out, even before the Mormon insult.

Date: 2007-03-13 07:09 pm (UTC)Plus, one of the first things I learned when I started working was that the newroom, where all of the reporters work, is high security. There's areas I can understand being like that. The Toronto Star servers and firewalls, for example, are like that - you need to pass through two sets of security locks to reach the firewalls. I didn't think that the newsroom would be protected like that, at least before this.
