'Cause, you know, nobody really care about Subreality, so it's fallen apart somewhat but...

Okay, Subreality is supposed to be a place between fiction and reality where characters, muses, writers, etc, hang out. When I got into it, I was more in it for the massive crossovers that resulted in all these different characters running around. I never felt the urge to write myself as some amazing writer/author character, aside from the odd reference.

What bothers the heck out of me when people toss their author selves into the Subreality is when many of them now play the "I'm a Christan and God decided to put me on this path" card. Now, I understand that if you're religious, you may personally feel that it's wrong to claim all of the glory to yourself without giving credit to the Lord when He's the reason that you have these talents.

I'm religious too and I totally get that. This is probably the writers trying to humble themselves, but never feels quite right. It either comes across as the writer being pretentious or that the author is casting their pearls before swine. And there's also the fact that... it's not really the time or place.

If you had a character who was religious, odds are she or he wouldn't soapbox all the time and you'd use example, action and other writing tricks to express the character trait. Why is it somehow correct if you're portraying yourself? And people wonder why I don't like writers in Subreality fics - they're BORING.

Now, if you excuse me, I have an electoral campaign in Subreality to crash.

What amuses me most is that years ago I had planned to bring another AI in (Theta, Nance's not quite cousin by Powers-That-Be association). While I intended Theta to be a bit of a joke character, she has a natural distrust of shady elections because of what happened in her canon. Put her and Nance together and you have a supporter of independent media and a flat out pirate broadcaster.

Of course, I can see this going completely wrong, but it could be funny.

Seeing that Subreality came out of the comic book fandom originally (I got into it through a connection to the MST3K fandom), I think the dwarf quota is very low. It so ought to be higher, given that it's crushed by humans with sparkly magical powers of yuck.

Mind you, WoW's dwarf quota is pretty low too... odd given that other races like gnomes, night elves and draenei should have smaller populations. C'est la vie.

Head's up: Katie was talking to Quinn about going on the Buffalo raid. Me thinks this was because they were planning a date on that day anyway. I don't know how many people you can stuff in the Neon, though, so I thought I should warn you. I'd offer my mom's van, but I don't know how that works in terms of insurance and border crossing.

The original site for the idea is located here (http://www.subreality.com/sc.htm). It hasn't been updated in ages and never will be updated again because Kielle (web master and creator of the idea) passed away from cancer in September 2005. There's a mailing list called the SCML, but I think the membership was moderated by Kielle, which of course results in problems with people joining now.

A lot of Subreality is based around fanfiction and round robins (shared writing meets RP, sorta). I was never part of the "mainstream" group of writers, but part of an offshot called the "Take The Plot Concept Too Seriously Club" that was meant for geeks who played up the plot in fandoms where the plot was unimportant. There's some old round robins I was part of waaay back in 2001, but my writing was really, really bad. Some of the old gang are still around (me, slwatson) but a few of them moved on. There was Bodger (now dragomorph), Joeanne (http://jbresson.deviantart.com/) and Amanada (who fell off the face of the internet).
