Sep. 23rd, 2006 06:11 pmVon was discussing the huge gap in the cost of many books, especially graphic novels, a while back.
I'm pleased to announce that at least the Chapters/Indigo beast is FINALLY correcting prices. For example, the price on the back of many Marvel graphic novels is $32 Canadian, compared to $19.99 American. That's one heck of a markup. Thankfully, the books have been adjusted for the current exchange rate, knocking the price down to $24.
On top of that, all the Marvel books are 20% off this week, so you can get at least the old $32 ones at par with the American sticker price.
I also met my old high school art teacher at the bookstore today for what was probably the first time in 4 years. There was a rumor floating around that he had died of a heart attack, but I guess that was wrong.
Happy birthday to my mom, who just turned 47.

Date: 2006-09-24 03:48 pm (UTC)Thing of comics and graphic novels: did you ever check out The Beguiling? I'm kinda curious to see what you think. :)
Oh, and of course, very happy birthday wishes to your Mom!

Date: 2006-09-25 07:27 pm (UTC)On a somewhat depressing note, the amount that Chapters/Indigo is lowering the prices seems to be dependant of the store itself. I picked up 1602/Marvel 1602 at the Eastgate Smithbooks repriced at $24 on Saturday (only paid $19.99, though), but then found it for $22.50 at the World's Biggest Bookstore on Sunday.
