Not the legal kind, sadly. ::sniffle::

Anyway, tested out the DVD recorder with a couple of episodes: Mars and Censorship. Those were the first two on the tape I grabbed. These were recent recordings dating back to the summer of 2004. I'm going to get started on the older tapes soon.

May the face of Richler haunt your dreeaaams!

::ahem:: This is with the one hour per disc recording time, the highest quality I can get out of the machine. The image quality is a touch on the fuzzy side, but that might just be the show in general. Prisoners of Gravity looks cheap. It's supposed to look cheap, pirate broadcast and tight budgets and all. There's not much I can do about that.

I also don't know what's causing that line or two of garbage at the bottom. It's not really too noticable, though. I think it's a VCR problem.

So. There you have it. Any ideas and opinions would be nice. :)

To me? It looks really good. Especialy since I've been watching a ton of KTMA era MST3K episodes lately.

The quality is very watchable and much higher than copying it over to another VHS tape, like what I did for you before. ::nodnods:: The masters are a million times better than what I have, but... I don't have the masters. XP I've held them and seen them, the production slates and all, but alas, I don't think I can get the Merril Collection to loan me them for this project. Yet.

Sometimes I wonder if KTMA era MST3K had a higher budget than PoG did.

Yeah, it's no contest bewtween the masters and something taped, even if it's still recent.

I found the budget for PoG, $23,000 CAN for each episode but I think the number I found for MST3K $2,400 USD per episode, is the salries for entire staff.

The PoG masters are freakin' awesome, but there were STILL some tape glitches with those too. I seem to recall one with the episode Robots & Artificial Intelligence, but it that was the tape or VCR, I don't know. Leisure I *believe* had some low quality segements too (going by memory here), but those are Rick's home movies and likewise look poopie.

I've heard higher and lower for PoG, but always higher than that figure for MST3K. I think the real question is how much of those budgets were used for production and how much went to pot sales. It's hinted that Richler (http://www.cannabisculture.com/magazine/cc11/express.html) was into it and I've heard claims about Hodgson too.

I wonder if there were mistakes in the camera film they used to shoot it.

I was going to say something about splitting the diffrence in rights, but pot would explain so many things. = )

That quality is incredible, considering where you're pulling these from.

I want some! I have GOT to get a DVD burner.

I'd pay me some decent money for that.

My wife has never heard of PoG before. I need to show her the awesome.

Also, I need some fodder for my upcoming video blog (http://www.youtube.com/user/VonAether) about it. Since I'm planning to have a cameo by Nan-Cy, I've already whipped up a screen (http://pics.livejournal.com/etherlad/pic/0005ew8a/) for her. The NAN-CY font is off, but that'll be fixed by the time the vlog goes up. Promises to be a fun time.

Right now I'm still in the process of dumping over all those episodes to DVD... and labelling the pile I've already done. I would feel bad about charging for them, because they're not the best quality ever and just recorded from VHS. That said, I'm living in Hamilton right now and your profile says the same. Mailing out copies would be really easy.

Speaking of that, I wonder if you know my best friend's husband. He's part of the Hamilton gaming community, although I'm not sure how deep. Other than World of Warcraft and Warhammer, my friend doesn't really talk about it much.

Fodder? I think you've come to the right place. [livejournal.com profile] slwatson likes to call me the "Prisoners of Gravity guru". While I don't completely agree with the nickname, I know a bit. Ask away.

The cameo is a cool idea. I'm not sure what font is used on the name/logo in the show or otherwise I'd point you in the right direction.

If you like, I would happily reimburse you the cost of the DVDs, or whatever else sounds reasonable.

Score!

It's entirely possible. Hamilton has a fairly large gamer contingent (http://community.livejournal.com/hamiltongamers): if I don't know him outright, I'd probably recognize his face from Bayshore or one of the local events.

I was thinking more in terms of media I can swipe, but I will certainly direct any questions I have to you. If you don't mind, I'd like to add you to my f-list. Reciprocation is certainly not required, although I wouldn't say no.

I came across the Bauhaus (http://www.typenow.net/b.htm) font while poking around online... it's very similar. If you didn't have the original to compare it with, it could pass as the original. Similar enough for my purposes.

Here (http://pics.livejournal.com/etherlad/pic/0005frah/)'s Nan-Cy with the updated font.

You're welcome to take this for your own purposes, if you like. I can send you the original Photoshop file I built it in.

Since your site appears to be the only repository for PoG screenshots, I've only been able to recreate three of her "modes:" the top one (NanCy Recommends), the second one (her standard communication with Rick), and the... fifth one? I believe where she accesses external hardware like the camera. But I can fill in the rest as more screenshots are released. Hint hint. ;)

I'll have to figure out how much those discs were worth. Probably not that much. :)

His name is Mike and I don't really have a very clear picture of him. I have this (http://pics.livejournal.com/commanderteddog/pic/0001gsd9). He's the guy in the white shirt looking back at the camera, but there's pictures of Bigfoot that are clearer than that. He's on the right here (http://pics.livejournal.com/commanderteddog/pic/0001hhz6), but again it's very crappy.

I added you back.

Oh yeah! That is pretty darn close! I wouldn't mind having a look at the .PSD when you're done with it.

The third one is external hardware. I know I can get examples of the "modes" for accessing interviews that aren't on tape (fourth), information/facts (fifth) and still images (sixth). I can't remember what the seventh one is.

...

Wow, the Internet just gets smaller all the time. That's Mike Garner. I went through high school with him. There were, like, five of us who sat together at lunch for pretty much the duration from grade 9 to OAC.

I only saw him once briefly last year, and then not at all for a few years prior to that. Still, good guy.

Sure. Sent to your listed Yahoo address. I can send to another one if you'd prefer.

The origin symbol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_%28device%29), of course.

Sorry. ;)
