For Katie: that new Labyrinth spinoff.

Anime David Bowie. O_O
Okay, how long until the yaoi fangirls find that? I've seen doujinshi covers that are more straight than that thing.
Labyrinth, the movie that is, is unbelievably twisted for a kid's movie and holds up fairly well as a sort of escapism tale that you can laugh at the subtext in. You know, "Look! Bowie is playing with his balls!" (speaking of which, I need that icon) and the tight pants. I've heard that Labyrinth can be read as a coming of age tale that deals with sexuality from a female point of view. This would be opposed to the stereotypical fantasy coming of age story that deals with the young man having to leave his safe home and go on a major adventure, which might be the reason why Labyrinth is still appealing. It's not that common of a tale and includes nostalgia since it was part of the 1980's fantasy fad.
So, my point is, could this a retelling with the same storyline from the male point of view? Yeah, that is a massive jump from just the cover, but you have to wonder. It makes it feel like more of a cheap cash in than it already is. I'm disappointed that Jareth looks less badass - he looks like he stepped out of Yami no Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness. Now, I've always thought that Jareth's sexuality was neutral in that he'd hit anything, but he would probably kill anything he wanted too. He was a very messed up little character.
Blah. Not that I'm going to waste money on this book. No, I'm going to wait until my sister picks it up and then borrow it.
"Renewal" projects with nostalgia triggers are all the rage now. Not that I'm complaining, since there are some totally awesome ones. For example, there's pictures from the Frantics' stageshow here. Word was that the skits were supposed to change nightly, but I saw all those skits on preview night. I'm not sure if the version of "Intelligent Design" we saw was the proper/final version. As you can see, only Dan and Peter are on stage there, but towards the end of the song on preview night, Rick and Paul came up from where they were waiting for the next skit, did this strange little dance and then ran back, thus earning this reaction:
Jen> Wait... was that part of the skit?
Me> ... I have no idea...

So, Jareth is teh girly so he can distract fanbrats by making them go "OMG! KAWAII!!!"? Someone online pointed out that a huge chunk of the Labby fandom are Jareth/Sarah shippers. I smell upcoming pairing wars.
