teddog: (My Fandom is SPECIAL!)

Okay, I'm going to give in a write about Anime North, because my work computer is doing 11 hours of rendering. GASP! An excuse NOT to work.

Anime North was like... my first con ever. It's held over by Pearson airport. Surprisingly, it was mostly okay. I was expecting much worse.

Katers and I didn't prereg, so we picked up our tickets at the door. We lined up around 8:30 am, the tickets started being sold at 9:00 am (really, 9:10) and we were all paid and signed up by 9:30am. Not too bad, since one of Katie's high school friends waited about 2 hours for a ticket later.

First order of business? Dealer room! I was hoping to find the Riza Hawkeye crane prize figure, the one with her holding her sniper rifle and the bonus Hayate figure. No luck there. In the end, I managed to get Chrono Crusade Volume 7 (AKA the book that took 3 months to find), A Tails keychain (Yay! Sonic stuffs!) a Riza pin (to match my Jean Havoc one on my bag) and a hat with fox ears. Normally, I wouldn't have bought a fangirly hat like that BUT IT HAD FOX EARS! And before you ask, Steff, it's orange and not red.

The con was spread out over two locations: the Congress Centre and the Doubletree. The Congress Centre has the best sign ever; it's like those butt ugly signs you see in Florida for the gift shops that sell 3 t-shirts for $10. Ugly as sin. After shopping and looking around, we sat on the front lawn while Laura played with her toys and we did some people watching.

The highlight was seeing a Sephiroth cosplayer, complete with sword, strolling down Dixon by himself. Given that it looked like a very detailed costume and he was walking towards an Aerith waiting at the crosswalk, it was hilarious.

The hotel itself... you could tell that there was a con going on. There was a blow-up doll standing in the window of one room, while "YAOI ^_^" was written with masking tape in another one. The Doubletree looks like it could be a nice place to stay on it's own.

We went to a few panels, like one detailing early anime series, some of which look kinda neat. I'm willing to say there's next to nothing that's really interesting right now being produced. Ugh. Katie picked up a new fandom, though.

Dinner was at the Outback, which was okay but not worth the price we paid. Ugh.

Best panel was Anime Hell, which was basically random clips of insanity. Do yourself a favour and locate a few episodes of Ultra Fight to watch. It's just... special? It would have been better if we didn't have to go on lockdown, but I guess beggers can't be choosers.

I feel kinda bad for dragging Laura around so much. Hopefully she didn't mind... right?

Jen wants to go next time and cosplay as Yuna, though I'm not sure what version she'll be (Final Fantasy X, X-2 or Kingdom Hearts 2). Me? I doubt I'd ever dress-up. It's just not a Teddog thing.

Dragging me around? Are you kidding? XP I had a lot of fun, seeing all the panels and everything! So don't even think that I didn't have a blast. XD *shakes fist*

I'm addicted to pinky:st right now though. ._.; Need... more...

I felt bad about not noticing Raychel on our way out, since you didn't get to see her much during the day. We should work something more solid out next time. I blame the sucky cellphone service.

You know, that guy who ran Anime Hell is on the friendslist of someone on my friendslist? Creeepy.

Oh! And Katie redownloaded ALL of The Rose of Versailles. If you want it, I can see if I can burn you a copy.

Hey!

There is nothing wrong with my new fandom...*pouts*

I still wish I got over my shyness and asked him for a picture...among many others I could had taken pictures of.

Oh yes, Anime Hell I had a nice Anderson and later a Kadaj to keep me company while waiting for you...^^;;

Jen wants to go as Yuna from Final Fantasy X-2. So no cute little fairy for you. :P

Rachie can dress up too! You can throw on a black cloak and be Organization XIII with me. *pokes* You know you want too...

Heck no, I'm not dressing up!

... I don't think Jen can get away with gunner Yuna. Super short miniskirt and a shirt missing most of the front? The fairy version is basically the same, but covers up more.
