Yes! My contract, as it's written, is fully approved.

It's still only a temp position, though. Things can't change until the current big project clears. :(

Now, the question that most people have been asking is what money I'm making. It's just over $604 a week before taxes. Most of that is getting saved, since mom figured it would be best to just deal with my relatives until they move, about 14th of July. It's around the time my contract ends and if it's not continued, I'm not going to be tied down to an apartment contract.

So, yay. Income. I have plans for some of that money, like going to visit some people. And, you know, paying down bills. There's $15000 of student debt. More waiting, though, since everyone is out at the moment at a convention in Ottawa and the contract isn't getting signed until the 29th.

Canada is about the same as the United States, but things tend to be slightly more expensive. Some of the higher costs are actually a carryover from when the exchange rate was worse, like on books and stuff. The biggest example is books. The prices on the backs of some of mine are $9.99 US and $14.99 Canadian and the book was printed in Canada!

The cost of living and basic needs vary greatly on your location. I'm in Southwestern Ontario and rent gets costly here. Our food prices, though, are dirt cheap because a lot of fruit and veg farms are nearby and the cost of shipping is low. When I was up in Thunder Bay for college, it was different. T-Bay was an outpost in the middle of nowhere and all the food and products had to be shipped in from either the states, Southern Ontario or Manitoba. You paid for the gas and extra transport time. Prices are even worse in communities to far north where the only access is by bush plane.

When all is said and done, I'm getting paid about $18 or so an hour and that's decent for someone right out of college.
