Yeah... I get PAID to do this now...

But look at what I did this afternoon. And as a quiz, figure out what these strange objects are.

Give up? Those are purses made by a Montreal artist.

And because you are AWESOME, here's random pictures from the temp exhibit I'm helping run this week.

A York University student's project. When the light hits the right angle, the stars project onto the floor. Sadly, that right angle only happens when the Science Centre is closed.

Mobi the telecommications robot. I fail at cropping here.

EDIT: OMG! I forgot about this, but there was a guy in a high school group today that what walking around with a black cape on and trying to talk to the birds outside through the glass. Yes, sir, the birds are afraid of thee, the dark lord of the Ontario Science Centre.

Or maybe he was LARPing.

Sadly, I cannot keep those shiny things. Those purses are about $80 each. :(

As I said to Steff, that robot is so something that Joel would build.

But..but... SHINY!

My job has puppies. I'm not allowed to keep them either. ;)

Shiny things! I would love one of those purses but it makes me wonder how much crap can you actually stick in there? Because if I'm buying a purse it's gotta be able to fit a bunch of crap in there.^^

They're actually quite big, about the size of a small backpack. You'll be able to see them tomorrow.

Not that this has anything to do with the above - though the stars and the purses look awesome - but which episode did the cap in this icon come from? Because a crossing of radio and MST3K is possibley the best thing ever.

Thank you! I'll have to track that one down.

The cap came from yours truly. Who spent about two hours capping that particular episode and really would like to know why you've got one of her icons saved on your photobucket account. And how many more icons you've snatched.

Because, you know, it's not that hard to screencap, or make icons.

This icons in the "borrowed icons" section, which implies that I didn't make it - I just copy icons there that I think look good, because I like looking at pretty icons. Besides, I needed to put the icon somwhere so I could ask this question.

And since you've asked: While I belive I have about five of your icons at the moment, and all of them except this one and some of your shadowknight icons I have from your icon posts, and I know that all of them that I've ever used is credited towards you. Infact, all of my icons or screencaps or other stuff that I didn't make but use I credit the original maker.

Though it is a little difficult to screncap when 95% of the episodes you have access to at the moment are on VHS, and I've yet to take pictures of a television screen and not have them come out crummy. But taking screencaps of the episodes I have on disk is fairly easy, yes. And so is making icons, as you said, and I do so a lot.

and all of them except this one and some of your shadowknight icons I have from your icon posts,

The icon posts are fine. Those are free for all to take and do whatever they want with -- modify, text add, whatever. Heck, if you wanted one to be exclusively yours and no one else's, I would be glad to give it to you and take it off the 'public' post. But my private stash? You like looking at 'em, then why not save them on the ole harddrive? Or look at them on my user page? It isn't even that, though.

I don't really care that much about people wanting to use them, look at them or whatever, but I really get the ass when they don't even give me the common courtesy of saying, "Hey, Steff, mind if I do this?" I don't go into your journal and take anything. If I did want something of yours, either for archiving purposes or even just for my own private enjoyment, I would *ask*. I would approach you, and say, "Hey, do you mind if I...?"

Look, the icon posts I make really are free for all. I don't even care if I get credited on those, though it's nice when I do, nor do I mind if you use 'em or do whatever with 'em. But I would absolutely like the courtesy of having the ones I don't make available to the public kept off of the public venue -- or, at the very least, *asked* about before being taken.

Is that somehow unreasonable?

I don't think it is.

Next time, try asking.

And yes, those are my screencaps. I took a whole crapload from WWWoBW, The Dead Talk Back, Santa Claus, Soultaker, and a few others. I still have a bunch more I need to do, before I return the DVDs to Karen. I would even go so far as to offer to share some of them. Again, though, try asking. That goes for everything of mine, by the way, not just my icons -- it goes for my stories, it goes for any of my occasionally, moronically random artwork, everything.

It's courtesy. I don't take from you, don't take from me. Simple as that.

Recently I've been going though a computer shuffle, so I've been throwing stuff onto my photobucket account so it wouldn't get lost - which sounds silly until one realizes that I managed to lose all my screencaps from Soultaker. *sigh* Stupid twincityhacker.

Though, honestly, it never really crossed my mind to ask for private enjoyment. I'll remember to do so in the future, though.

I'll ask you next time, okay? I just don't know how you'll react to anything I say, even if it's a "hey! this is nifty!," so I just went Rachelle because she made the thing and I thought she would probably know.

I don't mind people saving copies on their harddrives. I mind them being posted in public -- any net artist will tell you that theives are abundant, and the less exposure outside of my journal, the better. And while I'm hardly good enough to actually call myself an artist, I am insanely proud of my icons. Admittedly, some of 'em are kinda basic, but there are ones in there I spent an hour or more on. Other than that, save as many as you want on your harddrive. That's fine. Same goes for stories, art, whatever.

I just don't know how you'll react to anything I say, even if it's a "hey! this is nifty!," so I just went Rachelle because she made the thing and I thought she would probably know.

Even during our little duke-out in the earlier post, I had been courteous to you -- I was as gentle as I could possibly be in giving you my opinions, and while they probably burned your ass in major ways, I certainly felt justified in giving them, particularly since you took a potshot or two at me over my complaining about the whole 'MST3K slash' bullshit in the first place (in which I was polite enough not to name names, or post certain parts of said convo on my own journal). I've always been polite, though I'll agree I'm rarely outgoing towards you. Never once, when you've commented or asked a question have I *ever* been impolite. The only time you had my wrath brought down upon you was when you took a potshot at me over the Orrin Hill post on my journal. And that was poor form, MSP. I even regretted somewhat that I was harsh there... but I figured that you brought that upon yourself.

When you took a shine to that one icon of Joel, didn't I tell you to take it? Really, now, looking back -- when did I ever treat you discourteously when you didn't *start* the fight?

::waves it off:: You and I have some very fundamental problems, namely how I view your work and your philosophy to a fandom that I'm insanely (and admittedly, rather irrationally) protective of. Sometime, when I'm not having a gruesome day, I'll explain why *exactly* I have problems and I'll even cite my sources -- and I'll do so gently, as well. Until then, I'm much happier pretending that your writing doesn't exist, or that of your groupies, and that's better for the both of us... believe me.

So here's the deal: Let's be go back to being polite to one another. If you want something, have a question or otherwise, ask. I'll return the favor.

Deal?

One thing before I say deal:

That comment wasn't ment as a potshot at all. When I said you shouldn't have to bribe people, I ment that you shouldn't have to bribe your aquantince list after you appeal to their love for you, because after you made that request they would have already decied to vote, deaming the bribe unneccesary - not wrong. I never ment to say you were wrong, I never ment to say that anyone was wrong, and I'm sorry that it sounded that way.

Okay. Deal.

In which case, I apologize for interpreting it as an attack, and snapping back at you.

Glad we got this worked out.
