May. 9th, 2006 02:30 pmI wish Hamilton had a news website that updated with breaking news.
Apparently, Lister Block is burning. Lister Block has been Hamilton's eyesore for years. It's a nice building on the outside, but completely rotten on the inside. It's sad, really:

I did find this:
$100 million to be injected into Centre Mall redevelopment
Centre is my local mall and this has been rumoured for about a year now. What isn't explained is the odd legal problems that the property has. For example, the Sears store my mother works at at the mall and the surrounding property are owned by Sears Canada, not Redcliff/CPP/whoever as it now.
The "major new tenant" is rumoured to be Famous Players or Fortinos, both of which would be very welcome. My money is on Famous Players, as what we have here is a large city with an untapped market around the downtown core. This may also be why Famous Players sold the Jackson Square 8. None of their theaters around have "easy access" at the moment, being located in the Meadowlands (total suburban rot) or all the way in Burlington.

Theaters in Hamilton are quite depressing. If you're downtown, the word "screwed" comes to mind. It's either Jackson Square or a long car ride.
This is a telling set of images:
