So, roller coasters and stuff.
Apr. 30th, 2006 02:56 pmI'm still coaster fangirl and reading up on what's new at Canada's Wonderland. It's surprising that gets me excited.
Wonderland has been, like, home of the shiny new flat rides for the past few years. Lovely giant flats, which makes us people in Southwestern Ontario spoiled. It's rare for to get things like that installed in the US, because there coasters sell.
Over the past few years, this is what they've gotten:
1999 - The Fly (Mack wild mouse coaster)
2000 - Cliffhanger (Mondial Splash-Over-Top Spin)
2001 - Shockwave (Mondial Topscan)
2002 - Psyclone (Mondial Giant Pendulum)
2003 - Sledgehammer (Huss Giant Jump 2)
2004 - Tomb Raider (Zamperla flying coaster)
2005 - Italian Job: Stunt Track (Premier Rides LIM launched coaster)
And out of the group of them, the only one that sucked was Tomb Raider.
This upcoming season, there's going no real standout, new rides. It's like we're having a "down" season to recover for the last 7 years.
There's a new stunt show going in. Judging from the photos, they put it in the parking lot. Booooo. You'd think with the space that is around, like the old dolphin show area, they would find a less ugly place to put it. Also, they have some parade thing going on, which seems odd because very few paths in Wonderland are paradable. They wind a lot.
But... holy crap... we're getting The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera this summer! AH! That's so awesome! Well, maybe not to YOU, but I was raised on Hanna-Barbera cartoons during the 1980s. Until Nick showed up, Hanna-Barbera characters were the big thing at Canada's Wonderland. Heck, that whole Nick area used to be Bedrock themed. While SpongeBob was okay, I was getting sick of all of the SpongeBob stuff lingering around and the film based on him that was there was kinda odd. I know it SpongeBob sells and all... but STUPID HANNA-BARBERA CROSSOVER MADNESS NEED TO SEE NOW. With Dick Dastardly and Muttley, who happen to be my all-time favorite Hanna-Barbera characters and probably the only two out of everything worth noting.
Futhermore, this is a retrofitted version of the old film from the Universal Studios Florida's simulator ride. People might whine that this is cheap recycling, but this is perfectly fine by me. I wanted to ride this so bad for the longest time, but when I finally got to go to Universal, it was already replaced by Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast and unlike the Fullmetal Alchemist and Shrek films, there was NO chance this would get on DVD. Yes, it's an older film. It's from freakin' 1989! However, I'm curious to see how it looks, as the characters are all cel-animated and probably at a MUCH higher quality then the TV animation. There's a trailer floating around and the character animation, while extremely cartoon, looks nice. They threw money at that. The 3D stuff looks fine for the time. One of the things that felt "wrong" about the Spongebob film was that the whole thing was done in 3D, so everything looked a little off. It was hard to get into the film because there was always something about the animation that didn't look quite right.
So, I'm haaaaappy. People are coming to Wonderland with me, right? Katie, I AM LOOKING AT YOU!
