About me and the Science Centre
Apr. 28th, 2006 09:27 amLaura has mentioned that she hasn't heard about me and my placement, so I figured that I should give a massive update, because that's what has happened here.
For those who are new, I am at an internship at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto, Ontario. It's a place with a gray past, suffering from government funding cutbacks from the 1980s, but has a bright future as we renovate and upgrade our systems. To put it bluntly, I love it here. It's a combination of challenge and geekiness which makes it fun. Well, not including downtime. I really want to stay.
So, I asked Kevin, the head of the department, about the potential of staying on. Currently, there's no position "open" in Digital Media. He's planning on having more spots on the webteam, but that might not be until another 2 months. However, because I want to stay and because I've done some cool work and face it, a lot of the department likes me (mostly editorial, which I never understood), he wants to keep me in the organization.
The current options are as follows:
1) I get hired on as Ana's assistant on contract, with hopes I get salary when the positions open up.
2) They hold onto me as a Host. This means I work floor for the next few months until a position hopefully opens up.
3) I find another "entry level" spot in the Centre right away and back up into Digital Media.
4) I remain an intern until something opens up.
But they do want me and although they can't promise that I'll have a job 100%, Kevin told me they'll try to hold onto me. He finds me an interesting character, even though we get into debates about culture and whatnot.
So, yeah. That's all I've got at the moment. Please hope, pray, chant, sacrifice small animals or do whatever you do in hopes that I get this job. I really need it.
