And I'm allowed to snark at the hypocrites because mom is anglaphone (English speaking Montrealers = the awesome) and was there October Crisis. Or something to that effect. Her friend lived down the road from Pierre Laporte, IIRC.
The History Bites version of the events was funnier.
"Let's send threats in the mail! But we can't! We blew up the mailboxes!" etc...
Seriously, the History Bites Uncle Sam special was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long while. You can snag a copy here. It doesn't follow the format of the rest of the series (less channel surfing and more random historical events) and although the title sounds like it focuses on the US, it's mostly about Canada and Canadian/American relations. It's a little on the old side, since it ends with Paul Martin and not Steven Harper, but what can you do? :P

Date: 2006-03-30 04:54 pm (UTC)Don't even get me started. I'll probably come across as whining, but I've been told by the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council, and the City of Ottawa that I will not even qualify for any funding until my second book. And that assumes that I don't self-publish my first (it's considered vanity publishing). While I understand where they're coming from, they do make it extremely difficult for people to get going. Especially in the face of that text book.
Ah, well...
