Filking
(Setting: the control room of reality one. rick has a guitar - I think this is the only time in the series that we see it. the wrist panel is attached to the front of the guitar.)

Rick: Okay, welcome to the filk singing or "filking".

Nan-Cy (on screen): Infostore: FILKING: Years ago, a Convention mis-spelled "folk singing - It's been "fliking" ever since

Rick: For you first timers, filking is science fiction's Karaoke. And here's a little tune called Convention Angel:
(camera change)
Went out on a date in my daddy's Ford
To the con at the Ho Jo's by the airport.
My baby bought a dalek and some Dark Shadow cards
And a bootleg of bloopers starring Warf and Picard
(camera change)
She dragged to a panel on alien sex
And another on Robocop special effects
We saw tiny scale models and walls full of art,
And somewhere in the costume ball we drifted apart.
(camera change)
I left in tears when my girl won first prize
As Lady Godiva from the planet Vega Five
Everyone could see where Douglas Adams had signed
And where the cast of Red Dwarf had autographed her behind.
(camera change)
Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
Science fiction took her from me.
She's gone to fandom, so I got to be good,
So I can see my baby if she comes back to this world,
(camera change. static starts appearing)
There were Vulcans standing all around
And tables of comic books, some leather bound.
And then I…
(the rest of the song is cut off due to signal loss)

Kate... think what you want, but I don't think this song is based on actual events. Red Dwarf started in 1988, a year or so before the events the lead up to PoG take place. The girl in the song isn't Nance but there is a Howard Johnson by Pearson Airport. In my opinon it's a cute parody, but nothing more.

I do want to know how that chick took a dalek home. Maybe she drove it?

This is so a nance song. It's just like the SHR song "Suffering 'til suffage"....

No, that's not Nance in the song by a long shot. Nance acts oddly when it comes to her and sexual issues, unless she's taunting Commander Rick. "More Fool Me" is more of a Nance song. There might be another on Maroon. Know any others?

I wrote Nance's bio the other day:

Oh and Katie, someone made a cartoon for you. The girl even looks like you:
