May. 1st, 2005 12:49 pmI saw the Hitchhiker's Guide movie on Friday night. While there were somethings that annoyed me *coughLoveTriangleWhatTheHeckWereTheySmokingTherecough* I did really enjoy the visuals, especially the Guide entries, the inclusion of THE song, and a couple of bits and pieces that stood out.
As for the characters... fact that Deep Thought was probably my favorite character in the whole movie might be enough of a hint of what the script did to the major characters. >_>
Deep Thought as a female computer
I LOVE AI/computer characters. How much? More than you can imagine. However, there are very few female computer characters. That bothers me. Anyway, in most versions of the story protray Deep Thought as being male and now we have a female one. I actually prefer the female version to the male ones, since "she" is very softspoken and sounds dignified, more so than the booming, imposing voice I remember from the TV version. She also looks really damn cute. ^_^And this has nothing to do with her sitting around watching TV and therefore reminding me of Nan-Cy from Prisoners of Gravity. Nope, not at all. Really.
The Factory Floor
Sweet mother of pearl! This was always one of the more fasinating parts of the book for me - a factory that produces PLANETS. Think of how big and complex it would be! And the movie's interpretation is pretty cool. I loved this sequence... until they get to Arthur's house and it all went to hell.
I'll probably see it again, since Katers and Jen want to take me when I get home.
