teddogLooking at the raws for chapter 45 of Fullmetal Alchemist, there seemed to be a plothole of some sort. After seeing the translation, the problem has been explained... and has been making me go "Oh My Gee" all afternoon.
Now, I've always guessed that there was more to Kain Fuery that meets the eye. He's... you know... cute and geeky and all, but there's a few scenes in the manga that make me go "...Huh?". Such as the Flame Alchemist short story. There had to be a reason why Roy Mustang has him hanging around in his team. We know that the others all have some sort of skill that makes them special, but all we knew about Fuery was that he's a radio operator.
Of course, Anime!Fuery doesn't have this issue. He's WYSIWYG Fuery; a dog-obsessed geek. Oh, and he questions the military every once and a while, but that's the limit to it.
Sweet heavens, there's a point to the boy! Fuery is a hacker!
... okay, "hacker" may be too advanced of a term for this steampunk universe, but that's the vibe I'm getting.
In chapter 45, we learn that the place Hayate and Fury were holed up in during 37 is apparently Fuery's "secondary residence". For those who don't follow FMA, we found out a looong time ago that Fuery lives in a military dorm. However, he wouldn't be able to store a lot of electronics in a dorm, so he has them stashed in this location.
This also may explain why Barry and Falman were located where they were; because it was close to Fuery's techie HQ.
When we first saw the place back in 37, most of it was hidden in shadows. Now we have a clearer look at it, and it's full of notes on the military's radio and phone lines. According to the translation, Roy wasn't 100% sure that Fuery had all this info, but had guessed he did.
Which leaves us wondering... WTF is Fuery doing with all this crap?
Okay... the manga better explain Roy's history with Fuery and the rest of the group... like.... SOON. This is really making me wonder.
