I cleared Sonic Rush last night, which is the first major Sonic game I've gone a full clear on in a loooong time. I find collecting chaos emeralds very frustrating and so I was fond of the games that had little emerald collecting, like Sonic Adventure.

However... I really wanted to see the full ending. Sonic Rush is happy, fluffy love, especially compaired to Shadow the Hedgehog, a bigger game released at the game time. So, I pulled teeth and fought with those stupid bonus levels that wanted to make me die something. I arrived on top in the end, which was like... 5 in the morning. Oops.

The most noteworthy thing in the game is that it might be hinting at a few things that are slated to be expanded in the new Sonic The Hedgehog (AKA Sonic NextGen). The main elemental power we've seen so far in the series is water, starting with Chaos in Sonic Adventure. Blaze is the first fire elemental character and her ablities are hinted as being genetic or at least passed down through her universe's guardian line. We're getting more fire and water nonsense in the next game. Go figure. She's also the first major psi character (Shadow came close, but is Chaos powered more than anything and Amy's few skills haven't been important to gameplay), setting the groundwork for Silver in the next game.

Ugh. Too many hedgehogs! Canon is starting to look like fanon!

After the ending of the game, I can totally see where the Sonic/Blaze shippers get it. Subtext! It's not as bad as Phoenix/Edgeworth in Phoenix Wright (the holy grail of canon subtext, I think), but it's still thick.

Oh, and I've decided that I rather like Blaze, although I'm annoyed at her role in the comics. She showed up in one poorly drawn two parter and kinda faded into the background. :( But, she's a lot more fun than GUN and the Black Arms were.
