teddog: (Why yes... (D'Nerd))
Kaia, my psychology teacher, flaged me down in the college tonight.

It was in psych that I ripped a few new ones in a couple of closed minded peoples this afternoon. I didn't think too much of it, although I was kinda feeling bad about hurting Jay. He's going through a tender point in his life.

Anywho, I thought she was going to chew me out for what I did class. I was a little rough, I'll say.

Ooooohh no, she didn't tell me to never do that again. She PRAISED me. A lot.

Kaia said there's an unusual rift in the class (and the multimedia program in general) that she's worried about. The girls in class scored as high, if not higher, than the boys on both the midterm and the essay. However, most of the girls never speak up in class and the boys control the flow of class until I walk in and throw the flow of the class my way. It's apparently like Jon, Tyler and myself, among others, are part of a massive power struggle. o_O

I mentioned it may be because some of us are scared to speak up. As I explained, back in high school I was courses with very few, if any, other female students and I was scared to speak up in class because the boys would make fun of me if I got an answer wrong. Why? Because I was "the girl". The program is right now 2:1 boys to girls. I'm accepted in some groups of guys, if only because I'm "one of the guys" when it comes to programming. But it's kinda sad that I'm "the girl who can program and rant about the media longwindedly", and not just "Rachelle"

Kaia also said I was the kind of "sassy young woman" that the media in general is lacking right now. I have never been called "sassy" before. Ever. Along with the other things she called me, "well-read", "smart", "open minded", etc, needless to say, I was giddy for the rest of the evening. EGO BOOST! Fweeee!

We also talked about the gender ideals (and how gross the male ideal is. Yucky.), female writers and characters and our favorite ones. You try explaining Nance. "There was this show about underground media and pirate broadcasters and there was a female computer AI character that I fell in love with because she was so completey different from any female character I had seen before. She was the aggressive, sarcastic, cocky character, totally different from the male characters in the series." The Powers That Be would kill me. Go Nan-Cy! ^_^

So it appears I'm another person's spazzy little prodigy. Even if Kaia is only trying to give me a quick self esteem kick, almost every other teacher seems to like me. I'm just so darn lovable.

And I put a good word for ye, Tas. I told her "If you think I get worked up on this issue, wait until Laura comes. Then the blood will really start flowing."

This is going to mean very little to the Americans who read this, but if you haven't checked any Canadian media outlet or the Air Farce webbie site, then let me be blunt:

John Morgan died today.

Short explaination: John Morgan was one of the members of the Royal Canadian Air Farce, a fairly famous comedy troupe in Canada. I usually don't get all weepy for deaths in the media, but back in high school my friends and I followed may Canadian comedians and Mr. Morgan was easily my favorite member of the Air Farce. He played some of the best characters ever.

And being a huge supporter of Canadian media now, it hurts. He's a guy that's just always been in the media and *poof* he's gone. Sure, he retired a while back, but you can't tell me that the show got any better after he left. It went downhill really quickly.
