Stupid family members suck.
Oct. 12th, 2004 07:45 pmOkay, my Mac is in dieing mode. It's almost 8 years old, is only 300MHz and can barely run OSX. Yeah.
Most computers barely last that long.
Last week mom and I bought a new laptop for me to use. It's easier to ship back and forth than a desktop and it's fairly powerful, so I won't need an update for a while. Having had the G3 for so long, I can tolerate computers for a very, very long time.
Now, apparently my uncle chewed everyone out because we bought a computer, because I don't need a computer since the college has computer labs.
Excuse me, but WHAT THE HELL?
I like owning my own computer because it allows me to tweak around with it and do homework, gaming, etc whenever I want. And I can do things that I can't do on the school computers. Fwee! My old machine barely runs and I need a new one. It's not like I got many big items for my birthday either. This was the big thing. Sheesh, they didn't chew us out when James got a blinkin' X-Box. AN X-BOX!
The computer cost $2200 with taxes. I personally paid about a fourth of that with my own money. The rest came from the family trust fund. It wasn't the cheapest laptop in the world, but has the power that I need for my school work. New flash: Multimedia processing power doesn't come cheap. It's not like I bought the shiniest computer in the store or allowed the salesperson to talk us into a much pricier model. I also talked to my teachers and asked them what I should look for. If anyone would know how much power I need, it's them, not someone who works on the meat buying and selling business.
Someone at my uncle's office told him that I could have gotten a computer for $700. Sure, but that computer would probably be a slower machine and a Celeron. No offense people, but Celerons suck. I am not going to put down hard-earned cash to buy a chip that's flawed and limits the computer. I intend to save some cash and get Studio MX and Adobe's CS suite up and running on this computer. Maybe some higher end coding software too. I need to learn more languages. o_O
I wish people would stop trying to control me. I have a budget. I have an income. I know what I'm doing with my computer knowledge!
It should be noted that my uncle and aunt do not think highly of my education, since I'm at college and college is for stupid people. They also have no understanding of what my program is like, because my aunt was shocked to learn that I program. Well. And I didn't bother to tell her what Kevin said about my programming skill level. It should also be noted that both my uncle and aunt needed college educations before they got steady employment. Idiots.
