I be back in the Hammer again, got my computer hooked up (sans cable and the scsi chain) and back on the home network. It's slight akward and I'm suffering from wanderlust again. I'd take Ted to Gage Park, but there's a massive rainstorm outside.
Okay... the trip home went as well as one could have expected, seeing that I was involved.
My family showed up at the college res at 10:00 am and we had everything packed at 11:30am. We couldn't pack the car right away because JP's family beat us to it and we're loading their van up. You see, when people load/unload their cars and stuff, they drive right up to the doors, blocking others from loading/unloading at the same time. It's a sucky system. Amazingly, we we got to pack the van, everything fit. I didn't have that much coming up, so I'm not sure where all that crap came from. I need to learn to live with less "stuff" because stuff breeds.
I then went over with dad to pick up my final paycheck and talk to Rob about work matters, but Rob had left by that time and my final marks weren't ready from the rest of the crew, so we just went out to lunch at Pizza Hut.
I must remember that since I changed the food I eat because I really had no money to eat ANYTHING (more on the effects of that later) the result is too much grease and sugar can "shock" my system, causing me to get really sick. Lunch didn't bother me, but set me up for problems later on. It was good, though, and I wanted pizza for the lost time, anyway.
After lunch we gassed up on Arthur (gas costs a lot in T-Bay. It was almost 90 cents) and left town.
The Trans Canada Highway is a fun road. Not a lot to go and do, but a fair amount to see. We drove solid right until we reached White River. We had dinner at the local A&W and that's when I got sick. Cue headaches and cramps. Stupid fast food. I got to play with my brothers at the local park before things got really bad. There's photos of me jumping around on a caboose somewhere...
When I get sick like that, the best thing is to flush my system. In Wawa I got some bottled water. Oh, and I got to see an EVIL, giant, talking goose and a 50's era Canadian Tire. Wawa is a scary place.
The sun started going down between Wawa and the Soo. I'm so used to the sun not setting until 10-ish, so seeing the sun going down around 8 surprised me.
We didn't stay long in the Soo, so I didn't get to see the ultra cool water slide of doom (tm) again, but we got some more bottled water (yay!). I suppose this was ironic, because it started pouring hard on us as we left the Soo.
The rain got so bad between Sault Saint Marie and Subury that we couldn't travel any futher in the dark. We ended up pulling over to the side of the road and camped out until dawn.
I'm not sure what happened next. I woke up briefly when we started again, but fell back asleep until right before Parry Sound. The highway is really built up around there now. The rest of the trip was mostly blah. After a while you leave the Canadian Shield and the views from the car window become all farmland, and then suburbs. There's only a few highlights past there, like Canada's Wonderland and that old brewery in Barrie that housed a pot growing operation.
We took the 407 home and I fell asleep again. Lucky me. I woke up when he reached the Skyway bridge. We reached Hamilton at around noon on Saturday, making the whole trip just shorter than 24 hours, including stopovers and breaks. That's pretty good, considering how far we traveled and the state of the roads above the Soo.
