Here you go, Katie. Charmy!:

There's nothing scarier than Dean saying "You remind me of what I was like as a student". We sometimes joke about how we've lived in the same places around the same time (Long Branch, Hamilton) and judging from the comments he made, he was a fan of Prisoners of Gravity back in the day, but to go so far to say I'm exactly like that is... a reach.

Mind you, Rob has said the exact same thing too. o_O

I'm being to think I've the only person in my program that LIKES the program. All I hear is people complaining how awful the program is and how poorly run it is. While I know that the program is under going some massive changes and there are some problems (like Kevin never marking anything), I wonder if these people have ever studied media in other post-secondary school.

I took Multimedia at McMaster and it was nasty. Really nasty. Media studies in general aren't very "mature" yet. It's still an odd corner of culture that we aren't truly ready to study yet. How long has the media existed at the inflated size it is now? There's very few books written on the subject at are considered suitable for study.

If you don't like the program, transfer to a different one. The college offers many different programs and if you still want multimedia, there are other colleges in the province that offer the program. If you're not willing to take that risk, then I have no pity for you. Poor me is addicted to the program - basically, this is what I live for. If I don't do some amount of school work, if feels like I've wasted my day. It's pretty much all I have up here.

Okaies, and do you know how much it makes me mad when people claim that the only reason I get good marks is because the teachers like me? I don't run around claiming "Fear my multimedia powah!". Maybe I'm a little over the top with the media theories thing, but I'm basically a media theory fangirl. In truth, I'm actually insanily hard on my poor self. *Sniff* Poor lil' Teddog doesn't know anything about multimedia if you ask her personally. I force myself to push myself harder to hopefully get marks and then some unnamed losers try to shoot me down. Grrr...

There are good things about the program and lousy things about the program. I enjoy the flash and I enjoy the programming, but I seriously am not interested in the learning theory, as you already know. I heard that in the future, they're going to be giving students options on which parts of classes they want to take... things like networking may become an option and other classes may crop up in its place. :D

Personally, my major beef with the program is the lack of actual designing classes. Colour Theory should have been more about colour itself and why we use certain shades. Colour is one of the most important elements in design; if your shades are off by even just a tiny bit, your design can look like crap. It would have been nice to have a class where the prof explains why you use reds or blues and when to use them, you know? And computer graphics was an awesome class but... it's the same class that other programs like Broadcasting and Film get. -_- I dunno about you, but since we're in multimedia and designing is more important to us, I think we should have more of it than them.

The other thing that pisses me off about the program is the third year, sixth semester placement. How do they expect us to be working a full time job and still be able to afford to live? You really can't stay in Thunder Bay if you're serious about getting involved in the industry and all of the "good" places to go are expensive to live. You're working a full time job so you don't have time for a part time job... and even if you worked on the weekends, you still wouldn't be able to afford to pay for rent, food and transportation. And on top of all that, they still expect you to pay $600 to do it. -_-;

I actually was looking at other institutes in the Vancouver area... and all of the classes related to web design or graphic design were structured pretty much the same as our program, without the psychology/learning theory/networking. It still had all of the business aspects to it. I may not be entirely happy with the program but I don't want to be a quitter... I want to continue, gain as much knowledge as I can, and graduate. I want the opportunity to move to Vancouver, I want the opportunity to get a good job down there, and I want that piece of paper that says I'm qualified to do the job. ^^ So I'm going to stick with it, even if I do tend to complain sometimes. It's just my way of relieving stress.

...and for the count, a lot of people are actually leaving the program. It's just too late to drop classes now. ^^ And I say piss to the asswipes who're just jealous that you're doing better than them. It's pathetic that high school mentality of "Oh, she's doing good, fucking bitch" is still hanging around in college... doing good isn't something you should shun people for. -_- It's something you should praise and aspire to. And I do! ^^ <tries to leech some programming logic understanding> ToT

Noooo! Not my programming logic! I need that to live! *dies*

The media industry in Thunder Bay is a sad state of affairs. After growing up in Southwestern Ontario, I'd like to think that there is a chance that something great could come out of here, but everything is so messy. And the people at uni tried to tell me there were no media monopolies in Canada.

What They (the people in charge) don't tell you is that there are some paid placements out there. But I have no clue what the odds are of getting one. I guess I kinda have it lucky that my current goal is a job in Toronto and have a living place pretty much set up already. You can take the girl out of GTA, but you can't take the GTA out of the girl. :-P Although, after talking to Ray, I'm strangely interested in going up to Winnipeg if TVO or CBC fall through.
