Jean is dieing.
Oct. 5th, 2004 01:34 pmIt's sad, really. My poor Power Macintosh G3 is about to bite the big one and there's nothing I can do to save it.
I think my dad knew something was wrong with the computer. He had parts to build a new one, but passed away before we got started. I don't know how to properly replace the processor chip on a mother board, I couldn't finish setting it up on my own.
Jean was never a super good computer by any means. He has issues with his CD-ROM drive, for example. If I cross over to a PC, I should be able to raise money to get the right software I need; ie Photoshop, Office, etc and just run my SCUMM games on SCUMMVM. Most of my data files are to be transferable via Sneakernet and I can burn the rest.
Mom said that there's enough money in the trust fund to buy a nice laptop. I'm probably going to go to a WinTel machine because we have some close family friends who can help me if something goes wrong. Most people are pretty clueless with the Mac. Just means I have to watch out for viruses and spyware. Joy.
The BIG loss is going to be my TV. Jean is my TV and I'll probably keep him around as such to do video related things for now until I can get a desktop with a TV tuner card. But for now I get to have two computers! One that works and one that tries! Fweee!
More on why I'm a freak:
According to the testing in Learning Theory class, I'm a right brained assimilator. This means I learn from analytical/logical processes and that I think in an abstract/nonlinear matter.
Which makes little or no sense to me, because I'm now a walking oxymoron. I asked my teacher, Nikki, about it during break and she said it's an unusual combo, but not unheard of. I thought there might be a slight problem, but we talked it over and I do have the proper traits. Plus, it makes sense because of the courses I took in high school. In my OAC year, I was in Physics, Art, English, Writer's Craft, Computers/Problem Solving and Math. The school thought it was a joke, since apparently no one takes a courseload that looks like that. I had problems with my English/Media courses clashing with my Math/Sciences since grade 10, again because I had an unusual courseload.
I'm willing to bet most of my personality tests are going to clash. I really want to learn more about how and why my brain works, but I'm getting strange results.

Date: 2004-10-07 03:58 am (UTC)Mom mentioned about coming into Burlington. When do you get off work/class on Friday?
I thought you were closer to Danforth, but Union is fine. I get to run through it with a duffle bag. At least we have a weapon to fight evil peoples with. o_O
