I had to go back to my old high school for Jen's musical event thingy. Jen plays the flute for the school band, so I kinda had to go.

I technically graduated from high school back in 2001, but I returned for my OACs the following year. OACs (Ontario Academic Courses, aka grade 13) used to be these optional university prep courses offered to high school students. You needed OAC credits to apply to universities, but not for college. Because my highschool was rather... "inner city", it wasn't expected of a student to study OACs, so graduation was held after grade 12. Most kids left high school around grade 11 or 12 and then went out and worked in the factories around town, if they worked at all. In turn, we had a very small graduating class.

In summary, I graduated in 2001, but left in 2002 because I returned for OAC. Back on topic, I don't like going back to my old high school. It's not because of the painfulness of returning to my past. It's because my high school was and still is pretty darn CREEPY. I swear my high school was haunted. My middle school too.

My high school was Delta Secondary School. Delta is a very old school, almost 80 years old. The place is filled with strange tunnels, pointless hallways, disused rooms and doors to nowhere. If you don't know where you're going, it's easy to get lost and never be found again.

It was so bad that "back in the day" we nicknamed areas of the school "The Catacombs". The Catacombs where any of the parts of the 4 North/South hallways North of the only West/East on the first floor. Oh, and the boy's gym too.

These were scary places where the sun never seemed to be able to shine in the windows, even on clear days. It wasn't so bad in the one hallway that had a fair amount of use (the one with the language and math class rooms) but the rest of the hallways were always empty, even during class changes.

Other strange places I seem to remember were the area around the stage on the second floor, the business class hallway and the back stairs (before the fire). I should have brought along my camera to take pictures of these places. They be freaky.

Of course, the scarieist place in the school was the place where my picture hangs from the hall because I won a communications tech award at grad. People still run in fear of that.

Delta has NOTHING on my middle school, Memorial. The less said about that school, the better. There was a nifty underground tunnel that connected the two sides of that school. The floor was painted to look like the yellow brick road from the Wizard of OZ. There were scenes from the books painted on the walls along the tunnel. The tunnel was sealed off from the students most of the time and I've been told that it was all repainted in plain white paint in recent years.
