Sandwiches
May. 4th, 2004 12:31 amMy new nickname around the house is "Database", which is cool because I haven't had a nickname in a long while.
I took the dog to the park. Gage is a lot smaller than how I remembered it. I was going to go out rock climbing with Louise tonight, but that fell through. We're supposed to be doing something on Wednesday.
I get to go to Toronto tomorrow. I need to talk to my dentist about removing my wisdom teeth. They aren't causing any problems now, but since I live on the other side of the province 8 months of the year I want to stop any trouble before it starts.
Mom said we'll stop by that Montreal Deli on Dundas, which rocks because it's impossible to get a semi-proper smoked meat sandwich in Thunder Bay. It's probably the Quebec blood in me that drives the smoked meat urge and in T-Bay the only place that serves something remotely like a smoked meat sandwich is Zellers... and... well, do I even need to explain that?
There are three sandwiches that hold the universe together: The standard cheese, the toasted western and the smoked meat. Since my grandmother died, I haven't had smoked meat in a while. And we're apparently going to stop by Square One on the way home. I miss the old video wall.
All this talk reminds me of PoG, which I missed today because my cable decided to be STUPID. I saw a few seconds of the opening and then it cut to the "This station will be available shortly" screen. Of course, it wasn't available before the show was over.
You know, I honestly don't watch that much TV. Most television today is... eww. However, the few shows I try to watch I rather enjoy, therefore I'm annoyed when I can't see them because of a crappy signal.
I think there's a plot against me, because my CBC Radio One here signal sucks too. It was clear in Thunder Bay, but then we had only 5 FM stations up there and down here there's like 5 billion. I have my Y108 and Q107 back. Yay.
Speaking of which, I suddenly had the drive to finish a very old project today. The end.

Date: 2004-05-04 07:15 pm (UTC)For me, a smoked meat sandwich is what's also known as a "Montreal-style smoked meat sandwich". The meat is beef, has a slightly sweet, slightly spicey taste, is sliced very thin and piled a mile high on rye bread. Depending on what you ask for, you can get the meat very fatty or lean. The sandwich is popular in Quebec (where my mom is from ^_^), but hard to find anywhere else. It tastes a little bit like a pastrami sandwich. You ought to try a Montreal smoked meat sandwich some day, if deli sandwiches are your thing.

Date: 2004-05-06 06:38 pm (UTC)I am one for sandwiches. XD And that sandwich sounds pretty good. We always get out deli meat shaved really thin... for some reason, it doesn't taste very good if you have a thicker slice of meat on your sandwich. Tastes kinda rubbery to me. XP Yet you can have the equivalent in thin, shaved meat and it tastes so much better. Maybe it's just a lighter taste? Who knows. XD; But I'll try to keep that in mind, the Montreal smoked meat sandwich. :B
