Time to Vent...

teddogThe elections annoy me. Both of them. With the timing of the market meltdown, tensions are high and words are being thrown around that stopped making sense a while ago.
I won't ramble about my thoughts on the US election. The people who need to know already know what I think about that. As for the Canadian election, the election itself doesn't worry or frustrate me. It's the culture and events that are come along with it, like this:

If you're out of the loop, someone is attacking homes and cars in at least Toronto, based on if there is a Liberal sign in the home's front yard. The house damage is bad enough, although that can be cleaned up enough. What's the major worry right now is that the car attacks include the brake lines being slashed. Some Liberal supporters are removing their signs because they're worried about the wellbeing of their families.
Before you say, "Well, at least that's not happening in my backyard!", allow me shed a little more light on it: one of the ridings, St. Paul's, is where I live. At least one of the victims lives down the street from me. This is not a bad area; it's clean, fairly quiet but not overly uppity, full of small streets packed with houses. The homes are on the older side and there's a lot of families in the area. At least one of the houses in question is splitting distance away from a major school. We also aren't far from several major streets and a major highway. To randomly slash the brake lines of anyone is a horrible act. Here, in particular, it's potentially a disaster.
This isn't a political statement. It's an open, aggressive and ridiculous attack on the whole community, putting everyone here at risk. Whoever did this better pray the cops find them first, before the locals do.
Until then, I get to live with frequent police patrols. Surreal.

Because if someone's being persecuted because of their political opinions, who knows what will be next. And personally, I don't feel like being run over by a car because the break lines were slashed and it can't stop. -_-

Date: 2008-10-07 05:29 pm (UTC)I have no problems with disagreeing over political opinions, but physically hurting someone (or attempting to physical hurt, here) is stepping completely over the line. Knocking over signs is one thing. Hell, I've seen Green Party signs being stolen on a pretty regular basis.
But this?! RAAAAGE.
