thebitterguy, "The LJ law of slow cooking is if it works you must post the recipe."
Before I pass out for the night, here's a very basic and easily modifiable rib recipe for a slow cooker. This was based on a simple recipe that I took and twisted for my own purposes. This happens a lot.
The following should produce sticky, nummy ribs that fall off of the bone. As you can imagine, it needs a slow cooker but also require an oven for prep work.
Teddog's-Adjust-For-Your-Purposes-Ribs
What you need...
Pork back ribs. The amount depends on how many people you need to feed. I only had one small rack (About $6 worth) for just myself.
A spice rub. Again, of your own choice and design. The most basic one is salt and pepper, but it's not that hard to explore for different ones. I stuck with just salt and pepper because I forgot to pick up spices.
Barbecue sauce. Either store bought or homemade is fine. You'll want about a cup of sauce for each rack of ribs.
Preheat an oven to broil.
To prep the ribs, you'll want to trim off the membrane. Kinda gross, frustrating work, but taking it off improves the cooking and taste.
Cut the ribs into two or three rib pieces for easier handling - a whole rack probably won't fix your slow cooker all together. Rub on the spice rub.
Place the ribs in the oven and broil them for about ten minutes. You want to brown them.
After the ribs have been browned, place them in the slow cooker. Pour in your barbecue sauce, making sure to coat the ribs.
Set the slow cooker to low. Here's the only tricky part - cooking time. The time will vary. The original recipe calls for about 8 hours, but this is assuming that your are cooking a large amount of ribs and have the slow cooker more than half full. I was cooking a small amount of ribs in a massive slow cooker. Mine where done in 7 hours, and were a tad over done at that. The less the amount of food and the bigger the slow cooker, the less the cooking time.
Tada. Very basic ribs.
Look, it's my first time with a slow cooker! At least it worked!
