teddog: (It's Too Early)

About a year or so ago, I posted that I found Night Moves, a strange late night filler piece from Global, on YouTube.

Night Moves, if you recall, was a one episode show that had scenes of Toronto with jazz music playing in the background. I used to watch this as a kid when I had trouble sleeping (I believe many others did the same thing) and the result is that late night jazz music now has this ethereal quality to it... and it makes me sleepy.

Someone found copies of Night Moves's sister programs, Night Walk and Night Ride.

They aren't complete... but why would you want it to be complete? It's late night Global FILLER! 0_0 Locations include a very clean looking Yorkdale station and subway car and a lot of Yonge Street.

This is, believe it or not, a very fascinating piece of video from a public art perspective. Early on into the video there is a short bit of footage of Yorkdale subway station back when the installation Arc en Ciel was working. :)

I bumped into it when I was trying to find info on the gameshow Kidstreet after a college friend went on and on about a show on Global where kids sat in cars and clapped their hands over their heads. Instead, info about the filler shows came up. o_O

It's such a bizarre concept for filler; Canada had some strange late night filler in the past (CFMT's The All-Night Show comes to mind, even if I've only read about that one), but I think what's so darn different about this is that it doesn't feel like something Global would produce or even just air now. I'd say that it's almost has the feel of an early CityTV program, but with that music there would have to be more topless girls.

People used to put it on at parties, as way to have constant appropriate music without a DJ, and without having to turn record over every 20 minutes. :)

.... seriously? So, it's the wacky Canadian version of the TV Yule Log?

Or are you just messing with my head again?

Seriously! I was just starting highschool when it went off the air (IIRC), so I wasn't exactly hosting a lot of parties, but I'd go to sleepovers and wake-a-thons and stuff.
