Wait... what?
Jul. 27th, 2007 03:39 pmYTV got Futurama... uh... apparently.
Teletoon has (had?) it currently, but trying to watch it roughly in order is a headache and a half because Teletoon sucks. So, I never bothered.
Which makes me wonder about two things:
1) What replacement series are coming to Teletoon? I think they've gone through a lot of Adult Swim's catalogue except for Sealab 2021 and Perfect Hair Forever. Oh, and a pile of Space Ghost Coast to Coast. I could never follow that one. The little geek inside of me wants them to air Cartoon Planet, but given how Space Ghost did, it would NEVER happen. It's SGC2C, without the guests, with stupider skits, more Brak and less Moltar. Oh, and THE HOT DOG MEN.
Mike needs to see the Hot Dog Men. Ha! There's a clip of them here. The skit starts at 6:47.
2) Is YTV turning... sorta back into the YTV I grew up with? Namely, the return to programming aimed more at families and adults, instead of just kids? The anime movement is pushing this, but I don't see much of a difference between showing an anime series aimed at teens later in the evening and say, showing Catwalk or an imported British series. Anyone who says kids never watched this stuff is telling a lie. Heck, my sister was a HUGE Are You Being Served? fan growing up.
In light of the awful state of Canadian media, I would dare to say that YTV manages to stand out as a decent station, despite the oddness that surrounded it a few years back. It still has Program Jockeys, even if there's a smaller number then in the "glory years". What's really missing is a strong showing of Canadian media again. It's a shame that Nelvana simply isn't the drugged out company it used to be.
It also goes without saying that Corus is one of the better media monsters in Canada today. Their staff are a joy to work with, from what I encountered this spring. I feel so dorky that I can now make statements like that. o_O I just wish they'd fix their half of Teletoon. :(
