teddog: (News - Lloyd Robertson makes a Doggie!)

It looks like my computer is finally fully fixed! There was a problem which appears to have resulted from my starting to install Burning Crusade, falling asleep and waking up to find my machine acting odd.

Earlier this week, [livejournal.com profile] gypsyjr posted some YouTube footage of a music video filmed several years ago in her city (town?), which inspired me to look for similar footage of Toronto and Hamilton. I haven't been able to find much, but I found old CBC ads!

Some are goofy and others will make you ponder what happened to the network!

This clip is especially baffling. It includes clips from a campaign promoting CBC's "Family entertainment". Note the surprisingly high production values. Also note Peter Mansbridge's hair. In fact, ignore the rest of the promos and only look at Mansbridge's holiday greeting. It's worth the prize of admission.

Now HERE is something I never swore I would see again. It's a promo for the CBC Family Hour, AKA a fancy pants way of promiting Road to Avonlea. Never watched the show, but I think it came on right after The Raccoons, so I would always see these bumpers/ads.

This one isn't a promo, but a show intro for Seeing Things. I don't remember this show at all and it probably was long before my time. The intro is a great, if goofy, piece of retro television. You don't have theme shows like that anymore... probably for a good reason.

NOT CBC, but seeing a clip for CFTO before Baton or CTV logos is a massive shock. Look! It even has old Toronto footage. Behold, the Flatiron building OF THE PAAAAST!

I should warn the general public that I'm working on a way to convert DVD files into a format that can be shared on Youtube. Be afraid. Extremely afraid.
