teddog: (Not Alone)

Heard about the poor kid that was mauled by the Rottweilers on Christmas day in Hamilton?

That was 4 blocks south of my house. It strikes me as a "it was a ticking time bomb" problem. No, I don't know the dogs in question, but this sort of thing isn't uncommon around here. We're an old and slightly rough area and as such, people keep large guard dogs but don't have the proper fencing for them. There's also lots of alley ways for dogs to hide in. Hindsight is 20/20.

Hindsight or not, we still have a local kid who almost died on Christmas, which kills you inside. I'm baffled that the owners didn't note the location of their dogs more often - they still thought the dogs were in the backyard almost a day after the animals were captured! Outdoor dogs or not, you can't socalize animals by tossing them into the backyard and forgetting about them.

There's reports that people saw the dogs running around and trying to attack other people earlier, although we thankfully didn't get bothered by them - there's a major west-east street between us and the school and that probably acted as a barrier. I keep outdoor/indoor cats and we were on the street a lot during Christmas, so we would have encountered the dogs if they crossed Canon Street.
